No successful appointments to the Supreme Court during my conscious lifetime have been approved without a substantial bi-partisan majority of the Senate. Alito will be the exception. I am sad that Bush couldn’t have chosen one of the hundreds of qualified judges who would have gotten 80 or 90 Senate votes. Justice Ginsberg […]

I needed a laugh, I couldn’t help it. This just made me laugh and laugh
Then I saw this and laughed even harder.
Warning! Not for sensitive partisan viewers (every president gets impersonated)

The bill presented to the Utah legislature to allow Envirocare to double its size by empowering the legislature to override Governor Huntsman’s opposition to Envirocare’s expansion is the wrong idea at the wrong time. Whatever the balance of power between the legislature and the governor, Envirocare is already in the catbird’s seat.
With paid (redundant) lobbyists […]

The Biased and Deceptive Reporting in the Deseret Morning News
Statement by Mayor Rocky Anderson - November 4, 2005
It’s my understanding that this letter was distributed to the media at the time but re-printed nowhere. It is fiercely well documented and I believe demonstrates an undeniable reality…The Deseret Morning News for whatever reason, has […]

One thoughtful commenter wrote in response to our Welcome to OneUtah.org post, “I also look forward to reading this blog. I appreciate hearing multiple viewpoints. I hope you will be able to avoid the traps that make many other left-leaning blogs unreadable for me. I don’t want to feel like I’m in the locker room […]

One of my favorite projects while I was at the Mayor’s office, was this Freedom Forum, Freedom to Criticize Government.
Which was inspired by the national praise (DailyKos), but also, all the local “stuff” Rocky took for inviting others to, and speaking at the anti-war protest on August 22, while president Bush was in SLC speaking […]

How cool is THAT! Salt Lake City Editor for News West, Randy Haward has written a very nice “welcome to the neighborhood” sort of review.

This from Amy commenting on the previous story from Annette, deserves top posting - Cliff
I left the LDS church over this one too. There were, of course, other issues, but during the time of Amendment 3, I had finally had enough. I guess you could say that it was the straw that broke the camel’s […]

I’ve invited some of my favorite people (and some strangers) to write something to top post here…before the committee meets. This is from my friend Annette. She’s a georgeous British-Jamaican sweetheart. I love her.
Annette writes… In October of last year, I bid adieu to the LDS church. I had been […]

He gave a talk at the Hinckley Institute. Dressed for skiing. He just bought a house in Eden.
This is a MUST HEAR for ANYONE interested in pure naked truth, right or wrong, honesty from a new Utah hero (someone who has nothing to gain and everything to lose, and has made the leap into citizen).
The […]

Today will be a weird day, it seems. Alito’s nomination slunks forward, its intergenerational impact unappreciated by the masses. A qualified jurist, no doubt, but also a deeply partisan man with unspoken agendas. On the brink of confirmation we are reminded of another jurist, whose work Alito has pledged his soul to […]

My good friend and blogger Ken Bingham of Oblogatory Anecdotes, much to my disappointment, continues to perfect the art of shrilling for the ultra-conservative right-wing.
Sadly, extremist blogs, threaten the greater potential of this medium by giving credence to common and justified criticisms. As Joe Klein put it recently, “Well I bow to nobody in, in […]

Is it just me, or is the world going crazy? Not really the world actually, just the US. And not in some ways, in so many ways that to list them has become cliché.
I hate to imagine how the rest of the world sees us. “We the people’s” experiment in transparent democracy, the holy grail […]
