Again, my apologies for not posting again today

My best friend had major surgery at 8am. I had to wrap up a major personal transaction, prepare for the anti-bullying press conference and hearing at the capitol tomorrow www.mybully.org , then hit a staff meeting at Rhythms of Life www.rolusa.org, then deal with the Deseret News demanding a retraction over on http://utahbeehive.blogspot.com/

Then back to my recovering post-op friend.

So I defer to my friends new blog http://blueutah.wordpress.com/ If you can figure it out, let me know.

    HI Cliff:

Sorry about your friend’s surgery. It’s good you are there for support.
Are you assoicated with Rhythms of Life? One of my best friends owns a business in that building and I have often been intrigued by that business, plus they teach classes at my school (City Academy, http://www.cityacademyslc.org).

Hope today is smooth for you.

    Deanna,

Such apparent coincidences are a constant reminder; this is really a small town. I helped Mike a lot during the first several years. Rhythms is indeed a cool non-profit. http://www.rolusa.org I like to think of our curricula as perfect alternative s to dodge ball. Gender neutral, non-competitive etc.

Further coincidence. I am the board chair of the Human Rights Education Center of Utah. Our executive director, Carla Kelley, has been teaching there for several years at least. I am a huge fan of Sonia’s.

We just got back from the Senate hearing in which the anti-bullying resolution passed ( http://www.mybully.org ) before they took up a resolution, which attempts to put prayer back in schools. I could tell from some of the questions, that it will not pass the full house so easily.

We will really need help from “the people”.

When I first moved to Salt Lake, I kept hearing that this was the biggest “small town” in the country. Having been here for 8 years (moved here from the Baltimore/DC metropolitan area), I agree entirely.

I am so fortunate to have found my professional and activist way to where I am now, at City Academy and in working with the peace and human rights communities. Professionally, it was well worth the financial risk (quitting my teaching job in Jordan District to go teach two days/week at CA, eventually ending up as full time).

Prayer back in schools? Is there a reference number? I haven’t seen this in the papers. Hmmm.

So what can people do to convince our represenatives to support the anti-bullying bill? I’m sure that if their offices are deluged with supporters they would have to listen? Is there anything else? What time frame? What day do you anticipate this to be voted on?
    Deanna
