Accused of Libel ?
I suppose its time to let you know that apparently, Cliff has been accused of libel by The Deseret Morning News in the form of an e-mail received by Charlie Foster of The State of the Beehive for a comment made on his blog suggesting Brady was fired.
You may go there for the “juice”.
For the record, I like Brady. And while I believe the DMN offers much first rate content, under “certain circumstances” being let go by The DMN could be worn as a badge of honor.

For this one I must come to the defence of Cliff Lyon. I am ashamed at the Deseret News for what they are doing. I was especially offended at the letter the DN sent to Charlie Foster of beehive.blogspot.com. They demanded Mr. Foster remove and post a retraction for reposting Cliff’s post. The Deseret News’ letter was very threatening in tone.
We bloggers must stand together to protect our rights. Otherwise bloggers will be silenced and intimidated by powerfull interests that do not like what we say. Blogging is a two way conversation. If the Deseret News wanted to set the record strait they should have responded in both Cliff and Charlie Fosters comments section.
It doesn’t even matter to me what the content of their original posts. We must stand together on this one regardless of ideology.

Utah Newspaper Demands Retraction From Blogger!…
If we allow powerful interests to intimidate bloggers against publishing articles about them then it will really put a damper on the medium. How many bloggers can afford a legal fight? I would say 99.9999% cannot….

This newspaper seems a bit too cavalier with its closing suggestion of libel. The newspaper editor should familiarize herself with the high standards established in New York Times Company v. Sullivan, 376 U.S. 254 (1964) Also, for we in the internet age 40+ years later, check out results of Sidney Blumenthal’s $30M libel case against Matt Drudge….
