It’s sobering to hear how an “outsider” sees us.

A friend of mine, beloved for his eccentric and often passionate however informed views, passed through SLC this week. And on his way south this morning he listened to Doug Wright on KSL do a listener poll (mayoral) between Rocky and city council person Dave Buhler and wrote about it on his blog.

His “take” on it was interesting and I think relevant coming from a rabid AM radio listener.

I don’t know what to say about it other than sometimes, its sobering to hear how an “outsider” sees us.

I wonder if Dave Buhler takes pause upon hearing the heated anti-Rocky rhetoric knowing Rocky’s mandate is coming from a majority of Salt Lakers who do not call let alone listen to KSL.

Interesting.

You’re kidding, right? Political analysis and predictions based on poll results from KSL 1160 AM? Since when do the nutcake residents from Davis and Utah counties vote in SLC elections? Rocky has absolutely nothing to worry about in regards to polling conducted by this right-wing, keep ‘em pregnant, barefoot and dumb radio station!

What scares me is that people listen to this stuff and think it’s popular sentiment, because we were raised to think, “well it must be true or they wouldn’t say it.” Because thats how it used to be…maybe.
Bill O’Reilly gets caught lying everyday and an awful lot of people believe him because the WANT to. I worry about that. Is there no accountability?

A Salt Lake Trib poll last month found 43 percent of Salt Lake City residents said they would vote for Anderson if he ran for a third term in 2007, and 41 percent said they would not.

Apparently, the polls were similar before his last re-election. I’ve been told this, but never personally confirmed it.

I listen just to know, propaganda has the minds of a large amount of voters,

so you know I post the observation, you all an island in a weirdo sea.

Getting into the drink a little early today, Glenn? Your prose leaves much to the imagination!

…..and no I don’t believe there is any accountability, lying in defense of oneself seems the american norm these days. I have come to think that the public tolerates it because they are perhaps hoping to get away with crimes themselves, in act of hopful mutual tolerance, they emulate their leaders.

I often describe myself as a “Brit lost in Utah”. I say this, because after almost 6 years, I still consider myself to be an outsider.

I have lived in three countries, four states and have traveled much of northern Europe. I was born in England, lived in Germany (among people who say the Holocaust never happened, I might add), and now America for 16 years, and I continue to be flummoxed as to the rationale in this red state.

And no, it is not because I am a Democrat. The fact that President Bush continues to enjoy an inordinately high approval rating behind the “zion curtain” speaks volumes as to the blind obedience of some who live here. I am sure there are people here who still think that there were/are weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

Living among such a conservative lot tends to cause one to shift, and I have shifted much further left than this socialist from England ever thought she would be. I do this to keep my sanity and remind myself that overall, the country disapproves of Bush’s performance. Only 2 more years……seems like a lifetime, and Canada or anywhere else is looking better and better to me.
