Senator Reid on Air America-The Theories on Senator Feingold’s Censure Resolution on Bush

I caught Senator Harry Reid of Nevada on the Ed Schultz show on the Air America radio network. He did a fine interview. I admit my bias up front that Reid is my favorite national politician. He is a left of center Democrat that doesn’t wear his Mormon religion on his sleeve like so many phoney politicians of the day do.

Senator Reid was asked on to talk about Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingolds goal of censuring President Bush for possible illegal wiretaps on American citizens. Reid said that the Bush administration doesn’t ever want to discuss anything. Reid said the Bush administration is incompetent on everything from Katrina to an exit stragedy in Iraq. In describing some of Bushs actions Reid used the word bologna and said he would use a stronger word if he wasnt on the radio.

Reid said the Senate should have a healthy, open, and orderly debate on Feingolds censure resolution. Reid added that Senator Frist is trying to block the Senate from being able to discuss and vote on this in Senate chambers. I agree with Reid that Frist gives new meaning to the word lap dog.

Some commentators are questioning the timing and motivation of Senator Feingold’s resolution. They think he is trying to make a name for himself as he runs for President in 2008. Some radio callers here in the bay area think that Feingold is trying to take the progressive wing of his party away from Hillary Clinton. Others say he wants to shove aside Senator Reid and take his job as Democratic Minority leader in the Senate. I have a slightly different third theory. Feingold is an honerable, decent, and above-board guy. He believes he is the conscience of the Senate and should take the role that the late Senator from Minnesota, Paul Wellstone, used to fill. Feingold has alot of angry blue state constituents. I think he is voicing their frustration. If that puts him in the national spotlight and a place on the Presidential ticket in 2008 that is an added bonus for him.

Harry the MINO Reid, not only does he not keep his religion on his sleeve, but he keeps it hidden deep inside the Granite Church Archives up in Little Cottonwood Canyon. I call him the MINO as in “Mormon In Name Only”.
