Democratic Party in Utah May Be Saved By Republicans
Between having to call in law enforcement to quell a republican caucus meeting chaired by the contentious SL county party chair James Evans,
and the kind of comments made by Limbaugh wannabe Blaine Nichols in “His” Davis County Clipper column its little wonder the LDS Church’s 1st Presidency is asking for calm.Nichols actually wrote”
As long as the Democratic Party openly and aggressively champions divisive, ultra liberal positions; including abortion on demand, individual unaccountability, forced acceptance of abnormal lifestyles, coerced tolerance of only their selected viewpoint, “victimization†of those who really need no help, and ever increasing power into the hands of governments; even if the LDS Church were to specifically so instruct, there is virtually no chance the Democrats will achieve sufficient votes to gain a meaningful political voice . . . . . except in Salt Lake City.
Not one to stereotype people based on religion, ethnicity, nationality etc, I did take a stab at stereotyping Nichols based on his comments. I was RIGHT!
He looks even more like you know who than I thought he would.
You can read more of his “fine” writings here (you will have to search “Nichols.” The Clipper’s website technology is circa 1999)
I’ll make one more assumption and challenge him to prove otherwise; Mr. Nichols does not own a library card.
You know Blaine, on Radio West today they were talking about how the republicans began to define us for us for the first time starting with the Rove. You guys do it so much now, you’ve begun to believe it and say it with ever more conviction, till you can’t go out anymore without meeting a nice democrat and having to say” well, he’s not really the kind I’m talking about, I’m talkin bout Ted Kennedy” or some such liberal politician really well loved by a lot of very nice and kind people.
I mean do you really believe that Utah democrats are that bad? Did you ever meet Karen Shepard, or Gov Matheson or Gov. Rampton? How about Peter Corroon? You’re scaring people with that kinda attitude.
..and it’s just darn mean to accuse folks of wanting abortion on demand. Your granny would tell ya to be more repectin’o'folks. I don’t know one person who is not sickened by abortion. It a horrible thing when it happens, and it can be devastating for the entire family. But it is a personal and private decision, and that how most (by a lot) think it should stay.
Have you ever met a democrat named Steve Olsen? He’s is a fine man - beyond reproach - respected by all. Steve is cut from the same cloth as the Founding Fathers, and he might be your Bishop or that of someone you love, and they are better off for it.
So Blaine, do you own a library card? Pls advise.

Dear Anonymous and Definitely Liberal Democrat Challenger.
Nope. You are absolutely right. I don’t have a library card. How did you know? Do I really need one? For those who so choose, a library is a wonderful convenience. Libraries even have computers now-a-day. As for me, I choose to purchase whichever books I feel deserve my personal perusal. In addition, there are many other sources of information available to anyone who will search them out for themselves.
I sincerely apologize for not responding to your month old challenge earlier. Amusingly, I found out about your challenge from a guy in North Eastern Idaho, who somehow picked your blog article up on the internet and called me this afternoon. I’m really not that hard to find. You would surely have received a quicker response had I known you wanted one. If you had sent me your challenge directly, I’d have received it with gratitude and would have been pleased to respond in a timely fashion. Well, now you know the awful truth . . . Blaine has no library card.
In turn, may I now issue you a challenge?
I’ll make it straight forward and brief. Hopefully you will answer these questions.
Then, I’ll address some of the comments you made in your “One Utah†blog article.
Does the Democrat Party ordinarily, and, oftentimes very loudly:
Yes No Maybe
   Advocate generally accepted ultra liberal positions?
   Advocate easily available abortion, including “partial birth abortion
   Demand that the government pay for abortions for “victims†of pregnancy?
   Condone and encourage queer lifestyles?
   Sponsor active recruitment of, and education about, those deviant lifestyles?
   Favor concentration of power into government hands?
   Call for tolerance of a liberal view point while railing against any contrary conservative voice?
   Tell those who experience catastrophe that they are victims, and that the government has primary responsibility to solve their problem?
   Demand that every action taken by government be based upon race, ethnicity or some other “class
The correct “Yes†answer to the above questions reflects the core planks of the Democrat Party Platform. Though they are not succinct, nor stated so clearly in the Platform, they appear to indeed be the guiding principles and practices of the Party.
The primary position of my Clipper column to which you reacted so strongly was two-fold. One; that these core Liberal, Democrat Planks are diametrically opposed to the fundamental beliefs of the majority of Utahans (and for that matter, most Westerners). As stated in my column, if the Democrat Party hopes to ever glean a majority following in Utah it must align both its Platform and its practices along lines which are acceptable to the majority thought. That, kind sir, is a political fact.
Two; that even if the LDS Church told its members to vote for Democrats, they wouldn’t do so in majority numbers.
It appears obvious from your trite response that you read my column neither for content nor concept. Before you read it, (probably because you had read previous columns, for which I profusely thank you) you had branded me as a Limbaughesque wannabe. Your rush to judge and label me kept you from understanding what I was saying. Therein I clearly stated that there probably is an alternative political view somewhere in the various “minor†political parties’ platforms which could take us to a higher level than that at which the Republicans and Democrats mutually attempt to keep us. Personally I believe that the LDS Church should not have evasively endorsed the “major political parties†as they did, but, should have clearly stated “Principles compatible with the gospel may be found in the platforms of all ……. political parties.”
My statement regarding true alternatives in the political arena was a secondary position in my column. Somehow you focused only on what you thought you wanted me to say, then blindly raised your hackles and turned this into a Republican / Democrat argument. Mendaciously, you immediately stereotyped me. You then quickly inserted ethnicity, religion and maybe even nationality and the ubiquitous race card into the discussion.
With your attribution of sloven language usage, you labeled me and my grandmother as inept language bunglers. Library card notwithstanding (and, your article being the genesis of this offer), I’d be pleased to help you with grammar, spelling and punctuation whenever you feel the need. Grandmother, Bless Her Soul, were she still here with us, might not be so generous.
Although I have sometimes thought that Barack Obama kinda’ looked a bit like a black me without the moustache, I am confident that the mysterious “you know who†to whom you made reference was indeed not the good gentleman from Illinois. Hopefully the unnamed “you know who†that you claimed I look like was Ricardo Montalban (which has been suggested by others in the past) and not Jerry Springer or Sammy Davis, Jr. But, since you didn’t clarify that point, I think I’ll just stick with my Montalban fantasy.
Oh, and thanks for telling us all that you are above stereotyping. Whoops. But, now, onward!
Regarding your allusion to my “attitude†toward Democrats, I have reread the column in question and fail to see anything that could be remotely construed as a “scareâ€. Though I have no idea what your name is, from the picture accompanying your blog you look to be a nice guy. I’ll bet we could be friends if we tried. We might learn something from each other if we discussed our positions. We might even agree on a lot of things.
Indeed, there are good, patriotic, kind and nice people in the Libertarian, Green, Republican and Independent Parties. Likewise in the Democrat and other Parties. I besmirched none of them. Some of them are my friends. Clearly, I do not understand how any of them can lend allegiance to the “major†party whose Platform and practices are so liberal as to offend the vast majority of educated and thinking people in our neck of the woods. Still, I welcome their opinions and expect that they will honestly and fully discuss and defend them where we have differences. Where we can learn from one another, let us do so.
Still, truth is, if you want a political advantage you must either align your Platform with the majority thought pattern, or, you must convert the majority thought pattern to accept your Platform. Sorry, there is no other solution. And, by the way, the former is the easier of the two solutions, unless one opts for the “Final Solution†pattern established in the 1930s.
Finally, you state that abortion is a sickening devastation, which should be kept private and personal . . . . . I agree fully. I agree so much that I don’t believe anyone but the individuals directly involved with that evil action should be expected to know about it or pay for it. I accused no one of “wanting abortion on demandâ€, I simple reiterated the oft repeated position of the Roe vs: Wade crowd which largely resides in the Democrat Party; many of which indeed do not appear to be sickened in the least by this action. As abortion is murder, and has so been judged by competent courts of our land, it is not an acceptable form of casual birth control. Final judgment on this point will surely be decided between the failed mother, the shoddy father, their unborn child and their Creator. In the meantime, our official sanctioning of that ultimate act of selfishness has been a major contributor to the moral decline of our society. It has brought both men and women to disrespect the fountain of life and the sanctity of motherhood, the bedrock of principled society.
Sorry, Sir Challenger, I don’t have a library card.
And, Limbaughesque, I’m really not.
Rush is but a widely known and highly paid Moderate Apologist for the Republican Party.
