Another Exciting Example of Blogger Power!

March 24, 2006 (Washington, DC) – Today, David Brock, President & CEO of Media Matters for America, released the following statement in response to Republican operative Ben Domenech’s resignation from WashingtonPost.com:

“We at Media Matters are pleased the Ben Domenech will no longer be employed by the Post, but serious questions remain about why he was originally hired. The Post still needs to explain why a partisan operative who admits he is not a journalist and who has a history of racially charged rhetoric, homophobic bigotry, and serial plagiarism was given a platform on Washingtonpost.com in the first place. We look forward to a full explanation of these and related issues by the Post.”

Complete Media Matters coverage of the Ben Domenech controversy can be found here:http://mediamatters.org/items/200603230013,

Synopsis. The Washington post hired the founder of RedState.com a right wing blog (from which I have personally been banned for asking civil but difficult questions), to head up their own blog. Bloggers investigated, and found that the guy was a major plagiarist including stuff he had published in the National Review. The guy had even stolen stuff from PJ O’Rourk.

I would like an explanation too. I’m hoping for an admission of surprise and gross oversight rather than a defensive one implying the WaPo fully intended to install a plagiarizing racists to guide their blog initiative.
