Dear Mr. Taylor,

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for saying to Mr. Bush exactly what I would say if given the chance.

The tragedy of watching our democracy slip away, of watching my nation– once a beacon of light and freedom to the world– metastasize into the world’s nightmare of tyranny, greed, and thoughtlessness, has brought me more grief than I can express. The feeling of helpless voicelessness only makes it worse.

Your words relieved some of that and brought a little balm to my heart. Bless you, dear sir.

The original site had over 9000 comments when it crashed. We are hopeful we will recover those comments. The total number of comments so far exceeds 15,000.

Please encourage your friends to thank Harry Taylor at www.thankyouharrytaylor.org.

THANK YOU Harry Taylor !

Bless you for speaking up and for so many of us. I particularly appreciate how you thanked Bush for allowing you to speak. Your graciousness carries more weight than an angry retort would have. If bush only had the guts to listen, he would understand the value of what you said. What scares me the most about Bush is the outright destruction of our American civil liberties, and his wonton destruction of human life in Iraq. I feel significantly less safe as an American traveling abroad since his presidency than I ever did before his terms in office.

Thank you again for saying what you did.

There are no words to describe my appriciation for your courage, your voice and your accuracy. I have hoped for so long that someone would come to say these things. I pray that these comments will be taken to heart; if not by the president or the government then at least by the people…the voters. Thank you for making the effort to save all of us, for speaking for those of us who can’t or don’t know how. THANK YOU!!!

I find it hugely frightening that I live in a time where an American speaking the simple truth is considered heroic. I never thought I would live to see this day.
I would thank you but I feel that would be an insult to you and what you did; all you did is exercise the most basic of American rights.

Instead, I’ll just say that I hope we return soon to that a pre-Bush America where what you said wouldn’t get a single line in the local paper, let alone nationwide news coverage.

Man, I’d almost forgotten what an American looked like on TV.

Beautifully said: “the humility and grace to be ashamed of yourself.” He has neither, I suspect, but your words are powerful and I hope that they continue to resonate far beyond the hall where you spoke them.

You are a hero! As a fellow North Carolinian, I am especially impressed by your courage AND courtesy. You made your point so well, and without making it personal or ugly. Thank you!

Tears in my eyes…I’m grateful for your courage. The other image that comes to mind is the lone Chinese hero standing in front of the tank and not backing down.

Thank you. I honestly believe that the American public has been convinced that we have a popular president and Congress; all the while I have not experienced that sense among those that I know and work with here in the south. At last some one has dared to say”the emperor has no clothes”. You are wonderful.

Truth to power. Thank you Harry. I have no idea how you got past the screeners in the first place, but God Bless You! We need to wake this country up and your voice resonated with so many who feel that no one in government represents them anymore. THANK YOU!!

Thank you, Harry. It was clear from President Bush’s response that he did not process what you said. But millions of us did, and millions of us agreed with all you said and honor your courage in saying it and the truth of your words.

    Dear Mr. Taylor,

Thank you for having the courage of your convictions to exercise one of the the very items our Constitution is supposed to guarentee you: freedom of speech. The very fact that in exercising it, you were booed by your fellow citizens in an attempt to silence you saddens me, and shows just how far we have fallen. You are a patriot in the truest sense of the word, and I am grateful that you reminded all of us not to forget that simple but precious freedom to speak our minds.

Mr. Taylor has called out to the best in us. Today, the opportunity to show our best in the public participation of our rights to assemble and speak will be tested.
May we all bring our best to the party.

Thank you for your courage. That son of a bitch Bush murdered my son in the sands of Iraq and I pray for the day when my family and 2300+ other families will have the deaths of our loved ones avenged with Bush hanging from the end of a traitors noose – after a fair trial of course!

    SGT Moore

“Why of course the people don’t want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don’t want war neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for the lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”

    Reichsmarschall Hermann Goering
    Luftwaffe Commander – Nazi Germany

The consequence of silence in the face of evil is atrocity…Thank you Harry Taylor for your most eloquent wake-up call to the masses and our misguided Commander-In-Chief. You make me proud to be from Charlotte and most of all, proud to be an American.

Join the campaign for progressive legislation http://www.boycott-republicans.com

I seek activist volunteers to pass this letter around for a project that will force the speaker of the House Dennis Hastert to enact progressive legislation. I also seek volunteer activists to do this project to force Senator Frist to enact progressive legislation.

If you want to send me email please place the word PRIVATE in the subject or it will not reach me. Thank you.

Send the following letter to Speaker Hastert and Senator Frist. After you send them email or US mail drop me an email that you sent them email so I can keep track of how many emails and letters they receive, thank you.

Pass this progressive agenda or face a mass boycott of Republican contributors.

I demand that you get the Republican Party to hold a press conference and accede to these demands. Until such a press conference happens and the legislation and/or actions gets passed I will boycott products from Republican contributors Walmart, Wendy’s, Outback Steak House, Dominos Pizza, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Eckerd, CVS and Walgreens, Curves for women health clubs, GE and Exxon/Mobil.

I demand that congress pass legislation ending the war in Iraq and withdraw the troops and arrange with the United Nations to replace US troops with UN troops to defend Iraq until The Iraqi army can defend Iraq.

I demand that the Republican party end their aggressive and hateful action to end a woman’s right to choose abortion or not.

I demand that the Congress of the United states and the president of the United States enact a law to increase the minimum wage to TEN dollars an hour and also to extend unemployment benefits to a year or more for all people whose unemployment benefits expired after 6 months even though they still seek work.

I demand that the Congress of the United States to not privatize social security benefits in any form including taking a percentage of the social security tax and placing it in private accounts. People can already create their own pensions with money after taxes in the private sector.

I demand that the congress make all of a person’s earned income taxable for social security FICA tax purposes and remove the 88,000 dollar taxable income limit. This will make social security solvent for many years to come.

I demand the congress increase the payroll tax in order to make social security solvent as well.

I demand congress and the president enact a prescription drug benefit under Medicare Part B which covers 80 percent of medication cost, with no extra premium, no extra deductibles, no means test and no coverage gaps, and no penalties for signing up in a succeeding year.

I demand congress repeal the faulty Medicare law HR 1 / S 1 passed by congress in Nov 2003.

I demand congress enact single payer universal health insurance for every citizen as minimum coverage.

I demand that congress and the president enact universal vote by mail throughout the 50 states of the United States of America with paper ballots easy to fill out and difficult to change or invalidate by Republican Party officials. This will prevent Republicans from vote suppression by skin color and political party which happened electronically and in person in the 2000 and 2004 elections.

I demand that congress and the president enact that civil servants on every state payroll keep track of voter registrations and vote counting of mail in votes in each precinct and not companies such as Choicepoint. We need to take the Republican Party out of the business of keeping track of voter registration and counting votes.

I demand that congress and the president ban the secretary of state in each of the 50 states from engaging in politics especially acting as a campaign official for a presidential campaign.

I demand congress enact legislation protecting private pensions from corporations deliberately declaring bankruptcy or ending pensions outright.

I do this in the spirit of peaceful resistance to a congress that refuses to enact this legislation.

    ————————————————————————————————————————————————

Then call your local franchise or store that sells products of companies mentioned for boycott and tell them unless the Republican Party enacts the above demands, you will no longer do business with them, so get the CEO of the parent company to get the GOP to accede to these demands. No company wants thousands of people boycotting them espcially getting thousands of phone calls from citizens demanding a progressive agenda enacted or they lose our business.

Tell others to send this mail and to call these companies local franchises. In the case of General Electric call your local store that sells General Electric products.

The George W Bush 2000 Stolen Election commemorative silver coin magnet.

Show Republicans your opposition to the illegitimate Bush regime.

    Mr. Taylor,
Thank you for your straight talk, speaking truth to power. This will open eyes, ears, and minds (though not bush’s, of course) across this land, and hopefully what you did will remind people of the freedoms they have been so willing to let slide away. Thank you , again. You are an inspiration for others who are fed up.

Yeah I saw the whole clip. Thanks Harry, Bush had material to ramble on for another Five mins. about how he is right. Way to go!

The most significant thing about Harry Taylor’s comments at a George Bush function is the fact that it is thought significant.

Lyndon Johnson saw and heard a lot of criticism during his appearances and travels. Presidents since Lyndon Johnson have also been made aware of criticism.
Other Presidents have addressed meetings in which people voiced displeasure. This was the incumbent President’s opportunity to explain a decision or to convert somebody.

Bush, however, only preaches to the choir. His audiences are screened so that the whole audience consists of Bush supporters in a big cocoon.

He ignores those not already converted. During his second campaign the American Federation of Government Employees sent a questionnaire to Bush and Kerry, planning to print their responses in a federal employee newsletter. George Bush didn’t bother responding.

Protestors are kept blocks away from travel routes and meeting sites and are never seen by the President.

I have always voted Republican except for when Richard Nixon ran and won and when George W. ran the second time. George W. Bush and Dick Cheney are not conservatives. They are fascists who appear to want to replace the Supreme Court and the Congress with a Board of Directors.

    I applaud Harry Taylor.

  20. #20 by Ted kennedy's Liver on April 11, 2006 - 7:50 am

Well its obvious he doesn’t want to try and convert, the one thing I have learned in Politics….Never get in an argument with an idiot. Why try and argue with someone that is never going to see it from your prospective? Well I post here for the sport of it and to see the reactions.

  21. #21 by Lynette on April 11, 2006 - 9:11 am

TKL, I suggest you re-orient your thinking for your own benefit. It is clear from your writing that while you MAY possess the equivalent conviction of belief; you are not as well equipped with intellect as most others on this blog.

Your spelling (excluding typos) is a D minus. Your sentence construction is a C minus, and your thought construction is an F. You don’t appear to be able to follow a line of reasoning. You tend to ramble.

You should use this opportunity (time to engage with people who wouldn’t give you five- seconds in person) to learn, instead of fumbling around trying to validate some nebulous position that comes from having had to surrender support of Bush while maintaining your loyalty to the liberal hating, anti-intellectual idiots who were tricked into voting against their best interest.

Get over it. Admit you were tricked. Grab your balls, swallow your pride, and take a stand man! We are losing our country and fast. We have no use for people who can’t make up their minds.

    Any questions?

“I post here for the sport of it and to see the reactions.”

Oh, TKL, if you only had a clue.

What do you suppose everybody thinks about someone who uses the word “prospective” instead of “perspective”?

The only sport going on around here, is laughing at you. You are the rooster running around with your chest all puffed out, while you live for no other reason than the farm dog doesn’t feel like getting up and chasing you down to crush your skull…today.

Do you know the story of the emperor with no clothes?
