Stephen Colbert Does a Harry Taylor
At tonight’s White House Press Corp dinner Steven Cobert, in the giuse of his talk show charachter, pulled out all the stops. (Qicktime version - big)
But not before Bush pulls a funny himself. Except it was uncomforatbly not so funny.
www.CrookandLiars.com also linked to the full C-Span broadcast in its entirey. It appears to have been taken down. Hmmm
Apparently, Harry Taylor was just the beginning.
Go thank Steven at www.ThankyouStevenColbert.org. That took pretty big…

Huh, I thought exactly the opposite - Bush was hilarious and Colbert was having a bad off night. And I usually like Colbert but not Bush.

Yeah, there wasn’t much funny about Colbert when you consider he was telling the truth disguised as comedy. Dark comedy or tragedy is a more suitable description of what Colbert did.

Adam, for those who walk around with their heads generally placed in a hole in the ground, Bush is always hilarious. Grab a towel and wipe the dirt off your nose, forehead and cheeks - you’ll feel much better, albeit perhaps not be as easily amused.

Please don’t insult me Nephi, I didn’t insult you. I don’t like Bush, but I thought it was funny Saturday night. So what?

My sincere apologies.
But please understand, nothing - and I mean nothing - that Bush says or does is funny from my perspective. Indeed, one could make the argument that self deprecation from the Decider-in-Chief is designed solely to resonate with the backwater repugs in this state and country who don’t know any better.

CSPAN has not taken down Colbert’s performance…. They’re storing it in rstp instead of http as a RM feed, which I noticed my browser did not recognize. Open directly in Real Player. If you want a conspiracy, worry more about this evil global plot to make the world use Real Player :P

I’ve noticed a lot of comments from people online saying that Colbert’s performance wasn’t funny. The people who say that don’t get it. True - it wasn’t as funny as what you’d normally expect from a comedian. Parts of it were funny, but as a whole, it wasn’t. And here’s why. It wasn’t meant to be funny. It was meant to be scathing. No one talks to the “President” like that. No one. And here, the “president”, his minions, and the entire mainstream press were forced to be a captive audience to the most direct and harsh scolding many of them received in their entire lifetime. Mr. Colbert, I applaud you. You bitch-slapped them right and left, and it was a beautiful work of art. Not your funniest work, yet thoroughly satisfying nonetheless.

I agree with matt- it wasn’t very funny- but we don’t live in very funny times. We live in times where court jesters have to tell the truth-
It has happened before in history- usually the jester is the only one who can tell the truth to the King- because its only a joke right?
It’s just that we haven’t had a King before.
interesting times call for interesting players, and we do live in interesting times
Stephen is our knight in shining armour
we need more of him
can we clone him?

Just saw that Stewart/Colbert ‘08 shirts were up for grabs in a contest: http://www.wonkette.com/politics/about/wonkette-sponsors-are-giving-you-a-free-tshirt-176672.php

[...] Then, of course, was Stephen Colbert, who forced one of those famously stupid chimp expressions during a White House Press Corp Dinner with his hilarious spoof of Helen Thomas chasing the news beat – even Laura looked horribly confused at the moment, clearly pondering whether she should spontaneously dump the loser Chimp and just get it over with.
