Thanks to everyone who responded.

Update July 29, 2006: I am pleased to report that we reached our $10,000 goal this morning when a hat was passed around a Democratic State Party campaign training. We should be proud to hold the distinction of being the first and only state in the Union to have raised acheived our target through grassroots fundraising. All of the other 8 states recently activated on ActBlue, received the bulk of their funds from from a national PAC. Read all about it here.
Originally published May 8, 2006: We raised $1276 during this weekend experiment in small dollar donations $620 for ActBlue-Utah. Of the 44 people who donated, 14 were from out of state. The total cost of this fundraiser was ZERO.

What does this mean? Online fundraising works. But we already knew that. Howard Dean proved that by raising 42 million dollars over the Internet in 2002 in $25 donations.

With ActBlue, every state level candidate will be able to fully utilize Internet technology to provide a simple, secure, and convenient way for supporters to donate directly to their campaign not just for the 2006 races, but year round and forever.

Another very powerful feature of ActBlue allows anyone to create a fundraising page for their favorite candidates like I did here, and to place a donate button in every e-mail, and ANY website. All money raised goes directly to the candidate monthly with all the reporting required by campaign finance laws.

Why am I doing this? Firstly, it’s too obvious. It is simply, by any objective measure, the most effective way to raise money. I’ve raised money through house parties for candidates. This is easier. If you invite 100 people to a house party, 25 might come, but the ones who don’t would donate if it were too easy.

Secondly, good governance requires a government for the people and by the people. Today, 60-85% of campaign funds come from institutional contributors. The only way to change that is to create an easy way for us couch potatoes to upset that balance.

Why don’t the republicans use this method? They certainly could. I don’t believe they want to. Beneath the veil of “moral values” they are a party of corporate interests, which benefits from a top-down electoral system. They need to control the nomination process to insure their corporate contributors get the results they are paying for. The simple 20-80% balance between Gas & Oil contributions by party speaks loudly to that fact, as does the cost of gasoline, the war in Iraq, and the high decibel fear mongering about terrorists, sex and the secret conspiracy of social engineering to destroy the “natural family.”

That’s right, the democrats can’t get their shit together enough to stand for anything, but they sure can organize a conspiracy to recruit kids into the gay lifestyle…whatever that is.

I herewith turn this project over to the State Democratic Party and Caucus. You, my friends, and I have paved the way. Lets see if the people who want to lead us will.

Moving forward, this blog will continue to be a platform for open discussion of the issues, policy, and politic. All are invited to submit top posts.

A friend of mine and long time republican set me this email today.

“I was reading a Nancy Pelosi statement on the Drudge Report that worried me. I believe the Dems are continuing the failed tactic of heavy Republican bashing. I do not want another 50-50 election and have the Dems offer no clear plans and vision.

Bashing Bush and complaining about his failures is like telling Americans Bill Gates is rich. Duh.

What Americans do not know, including myself, is what the Dems plan to do going forward. Specific plans about the war and taxes etc. I would like to write the Dems and voice my concern. What is the most effective way without a ton of work?”

As a lifelong democrat, I am intrigued by the myriad of ways republicans are beginning to wake up. I have yet to see one admit they’ve been fooled. In this particular case, I know my friend still watches the mainstream media if not Fox news and obviously that scum Drudge.

Why shouldn’t we bash Bush? If he truly ever had our best interests at heart, I might think otherwise, but he does not now and never did. He has devastated our image and reputation abroad, violated numerous international treaties, and has purposefully and deliberately led us into an illegal war based on lies.

If he is not punished, our country and constitution is weakened.

As per the idea that the Democratic Party has no plan; that’s just bunk. It’s out there for all to see. Such statements only reflect a mistaken expectation that the media will spoon-feed us whatever we need to know. If that were ever true in the past, it certainly isn’t now.

Bush has unknowingly effected a new and real kind of individual responsibility – one in which we must get off our asses a seek out objective information in order to inform ourselves in order to fulfill our patriotic duty to participate in our government.

See, there maybe some good that comes out of this disaster who calls himself the “decider” after all.

The philosopher Ayn Rand wrote, “The actual performance of men in society is a constant, fierce, undefined struggle between the genius and the parasite…”

Its interesting that the neocons love Ayn Rand…but Bush is no genius…

According to public opinion polls, most Americans feel the U.S. economy has
been moving in the wrong direction. Indeed, an analysis of several
important economic indicators shows they’re right. In apples-to-apples
comparisons of annualized data, these indicators of the country’s economic
well-being show mostly negative change during President George W. Bush’s
administration, compared to mostly positive change during President Bill
Clinton’s administration. Presidents obviously do not control everything
that happens on their watch. But it is fair — and entirely appropriate —
to judge how they play the economic hands they are dealt. Bush’s economic
policies have diverged dramatically from Clinton’s, and PPI believes the
disparities in economic outcomes under each administration are attributable
at least in part to those policy choices.

This chart compares economic performance under the two administrations on a
    number of especially important fronts:

President Bush’s approval rating has slumped to 31% in a new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll, the lowest of his presidency and a warning sign for Republicans in the November elections.

    http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2006-05-08-bush-approval_x.htm

The survey of 1,013 adults, taken Friday through Sunday, shows Bush’s standing down by 3 percentage points in a single week. His disapproval rating also reached a record: 65%. The margin of error is +/- 3 percentage points.

The 2006 elections are the Democrats’ to lose now. The October Surprise is being prepared…

Colbert for President! I love the guy and even though he’s wacky and wierd, he’d be better than any of the other candidates.
