Pitiful Politics - Good vs. Shameless Muckraking
I have removed the original video of the recent District 25 primary debate and replaced it with a shorter equally rough one which reflects Christine’s mastery of the issues and Utah Politics to the extent that any substantive issues could be addressed in light of the unfortunate dominace of muckrakers at the debate.
We have been fortunate to have had Christine fighting for important issues as a citizen activist on the hill and we will even luckier to be represented by her.
I have also removed my prior comments about what happened at the debate, and will simply say, I was saddened by the vicious attacks by people who, even the moderator suggested, were “plants”, who mercilessly raised non-issues that only served to pollute what could have been a useful and informative dialogue. For the record, I do not believe the candidate for whom they acted as shrills orchestrated their disingenuous attacks, but I also feel he could have distanced himself from them.
Neither candidate was served by these mean-spirited attacks, but only one stayed well above the muckraking.
Some of the tactics used in this campaign reflect all that has gone wrong in politics today. Christine is to be congratulated for staying far above those tactics. As one observer of this particular race, it is little wonder that great people like Christine are so few and far between in our legislative bodies today. Only someone with the strongest sense of purpose and conviction would expose herself and family to shameless and petty attacks.
The election is Tuesday. Please take the time to contact everyone you know in District 25, (map here and Click “Rep 25″) and ask them to vote for Christine, because we deserve the best.
District 25 includes Federal Heights, Emigration Canyon, parts of Summit County and Park City, and East Central (East of 7th East to 17th East and South of 13th South to South Temple)

Wait a second. I thought this was a primary election between two Democrats. Josh Ewing and his supporters appear more tuned into Karl Rove and his playbook - e.g., ad hominem attack - rather than issues that matter to folks. Let’s send Josh back to the Repug party where, judging by his debate strategy, he came from.
Christine has both earned and deserves my vote!

Lordy lordy wheeewee. A good reminder, Dem0crats don’t all have a monopoly on sincerity. It’s got to be about the person and we’ve got to take the time to look and be heard by voting.

Pitiful doesn’t do justice.

I watched the debate and it was embarrassing! Nitpicking, pointless attacks at Christine who took shot after shot without even a flinch. What came across loud and clear is that Christine knows the real issues, is focused on the real problems and clearly wants to make a real difference. I was impressed by her ability to keep her cool with such stupid comments such as “You said you were only 3% lesbian…†What does that have to do with anything? She never took the bait and she turned each attack into addressing an issue. She is a class act!
Christine maintained her composure throughout the debate. With quiet assurance and constant eye contact with the audience she demonstrated her expert understanding and knowledge of the issues. She is unmistakably capable. In harsh contrast, Josh visibly demonstrated his lack of understanding and knowledge of the issues. He couldn’t even maintain eye contact with the audience—that says it all.

The Ewing campaign has left such a poor taste in my mouth. Rather than allow the issues to speak for themselves, “Team Ewing” has played dirty politics. I have heard that partisan races are the ugliest, and this has proven to be true. Shame on Mr. Ewing. Shame on the “Plants” who each apparently read their prepared comments, and kudos to Ms. Johnson for being authentic. What an embarrassment for her opponent.

I was impressed by both candidates, but this crap is leaving a bad taste in my mouth.
Go Christine! You are the best candidate.

Hurrah for Christine who has demonstrated poise, honesty and leadership throughout her campaign! Such a person gives me hope that intellegent things will finally happen in the state legislature.
It all starts here in electing and supporting those who have passion for the issues, the brains to think things through and guts to do something about it.
