Watching CNN today, I expected to hear the the attached speech, perhaps I missed it, so I send it myself, but I hope that this is the spirit in Jerusalem today.

Follows is a speech that was not delivered yesterday by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

Text of speech that didn’t happen:

Ladies and gentlemen,

Almost three weeks ago Israel was attacked by a terror organization which is fighting as a front line for the cause of a global Islamic war which has one declared long range goal: the annihilation of the sovereign state of Israel. This war is energized by Tehran, and operated from Beirut and Gaza. It is the duty of the government of Israel to eradicate and uproot the forces that fight with such dangerous goal.

The government of Lebanon ignored its duty to avoid attacks on Israel from its territory. No single Israeli will be dependent on such incompetent foreign forces. The IDF was given the task of stopping the missile-terror attacks on Israel and destroying the terror organization that operates freely from Lebanon.

For two weeks we called the civilians residents of the area that was used for launching deadly attack on our territory to evacuate the fire zone. This is a war. A war zone is dangerous. A war zone is much more dangerous when the terrorists are hiding among civilian residents and when they operate their arms from mosques and apartment homes.

We made all attempts to get separation between the civil residents and terrorists and avoid civil casualties, but we shall not sacrifice the life of our citizens or soldiers due to the limitations imposed on us by the mixing of terrorists and civil residents. We shall not accept the immoral mode of war using human shields. This is a war and in a war very terrible things happen, we are not happy with that, but a sovereign state under attack has the duty and full right to fight despite the suffering.

Everyone who chooses to allow explosives into his home should not be surprised if he is hit when it explodes. It is the duty of the government of Lebanon to pull all civil residents from the fire zone right away. There is a humanitarian corridor that can be used, provided that it is not used by the terrorists. I call on the Lebanese authorities to evacuate the area until tomorrow night through that corridor. As of 24 hours from now, every house; suspected equipment and every human being present in the war zone will be considered part of the fighting forces of the enemy and treated accordingly.

The IDF has full backing of the people of Israel and the cabinet to continue its determined fighting in order to achieve with full success the goals of the war stated by the cabinet in order to secure Israel’s long term sovereignty and security.

We call on the governments of the free world to recognize that the Hizbolla is a spearhead of global Moslem offensive against the free world and this war is directly defending them as well.

We shall fight in the air, on land and on sea, united and determined till we destroy the terror organizations that aspire to destroy our sovereign free democratic state. It will be difficult, we shall have to withstand difficulties but, united, at home and at the battlefield, we shall win.
