Death by a Thousand Cuts
Death by a thousand cuts. That’s how they kill elephants in Africa. Before guns were invented, and still today for tribes that have none, you just keep stabbing that elephant until it falls over.
I can’t think of another way to describe what Emily Hollingshead (Senate District 28) and Larry Daniel (House District 72) are doing in southern Utah. In places and seats where republicans were considered safe for decades, these two LDS Democrats have the elephant staggering.
Hmmm. I wonder what the first website of a fourteen-year incumbent looks like? GO BUD! Love the pink.
And I’ve written about “Stuffy†before (here). Hey look; it’s not like these guys are bad people, but if politics as usual had a face…
Or we can send these two. Check out Larry’s statement for a breath of fresh air.
So, read on. But first, I have a colossally wonderful idea. Give $5 bucks to these Elephant Killers.
It won’t hurt a bit. But it will be five more slashes on that elephant. Utah Republicans are pretty smug down there. They think their elephant dung doesn’t stink. But they are trampling on the rights of Americans and with a few bucks from a lot of us we can take down an elephant in it’s own back yard. Just when they thought it was safe to go out in Utah….
Thanks to these two, the state Republican Party is having to spend huge money in places they thought were safe. This is turning out to be a “death by a thousand cuts” insurgency, in Southern Utah.
In a sign of desperation party loyalist Bud Bowman and several others actually voted WITH the Democrats in favor of the education set aside and AGAINST the tax during the special session on Tuesday. Several republican legislators explained Bowman’s vote as “running scared†(I paraphrase) Can you say, “Cut and Run†from the Republicans?
One lobbyist told me Bud is frantically calling around looking for money.
It gets better. Emily’s opponent, Dennis Stowell was paraded around on Tuesday like a show pony by Utah senate republicans. Republicans on The Hill actually tried to attach a property tax reform plan to Stowell. Problem is, the idea has been around the Hill for 15 years. Maybe that’s why Utah republicans are going around the state saying, “You don’t vote for the person, you vote for the party.â€
Big Red Whistle Stop Tour Yep, the Pubs are doing a “Big Red Bus Whistle Stop Tour†in Iron and Washington Counties next Tuesday with Huntsman and Shurtleff (who will be holding their collective noses as they have NOTHING in common with Utah Republicans), Herbert, and The Man LaVar Christensen, along with every southern Utah legislator and every other
The theme is “Vote Red, Vote Republican and America Needs Utah.â€
As Larry likes to say, “Real Americans are TRUE BLUE. Better Dead that RED.â€

Ankle-biting Southern Utah Mormon Warriors? Would that make them Lamanites or Moronites? …forgive the pun, I couldn’t resist. I love you all.
You guys are either nuts or heros. God Speed!

I think that would make them Moronites. Unless of course The republicans continue to embarass themselves as they did on Tuesday? I believe?

YES, you go!!! Keep up the momentum, keep doing what you’re doing, and show them who’s boss. Saw you guys tonight at the SUU Welcome Back street fair, it was great that you were registering people to vote and getting the word out. I hope you both win and get in there and clean up the Utah legislature.
Also saw LaVar C. He’s kinda arrogant, isn’t he?

I saw the Republicans there too. I think GOD smote them, because a gust of wind blew down the LaVar icon (a big giant photo of either him or his ego) then the wind blew down the Orrin icon (same thing).
I guess the good thing is that at least Horrin Orrin and the Anti-Christensen weren’t blowing the big pharmaceutical companies or other lobbyists this time.
The southern Utah dems in both Iron and Washington county may be fighting an a bloated elephant, but at least they are fighting….for us.

Isn’t it time that we put country over party? The Republicans are destroying this country from the local level straight on through to the federal level. What more do people need to see? Has the American population become so disassociated with what happens politically that they simply can’t make the connection to what is happening to them financially? Can Religious conservatives really feel things are going well while we have more uninsured than ever, more living in poverty, the middle class being slowly killed, our young being sent off to die in a war with seemingly no end and all a politician needs to do to keep his job is say “God”. It is time for everyone from Utah to say enough is enough and lead the way towards something better. Good luck Emily and Larry. Utah needs you.

I agree with Jeff who said the Republican Party has a lot of problems.
I started a mobile blog on my cell phone through blogspot.com called Jack Gray’s Politics in Utah. I like to talk about politics I have a political science degree and I ran for several offices. The website is at http://zedcry432.blogspot.com/
Thanks,
Jack

Hey, I got to compare the repubs and the dems at the SUU homecoming parade on Saturday. Talk about live donkeys beating dead elephants. Talk about people over politics.
The repubs were the same old thing, and by same old thing I meant same ol’ good ol’ boys. In this case they were really old. Bowman is 78 for pete’s sake. Stowell isn’t much younger. The Anti-Christensen just leaves a trail of slime and lobbyist’s money where ever he goes.
Emily and Larry need our support. The Big Red Bus will be blowing into Cedar City on Tuesday, Sept. 26th at 10 am. Let’s get as many people as possible together wearing BLUE to show them their days are numbered.

The Big Red Menance, I mean, Bus blew into Southern Utah today and the Elephant Killers were at it again. Signs popped up all over town with refreshing little jabs at the Repubs. Not mean or anything, just good natured fun.
