Emily Hollingshead has written a splendid article (below) which speaks to the essence of American democracy, in the spirit of Martha and Thomas Jefferson and Abigail and John Adams. Though history would see them in opposing parties, in reality, they, with James and Dolley Madison, spoke above partisan politics. They were among [...]

Just when I thought I knew how this campaign season would go, I found myself upside down and flabbergasted. Yesterday, I was invited to speak at the Iron County Board of Realtors luncheon, along with candidates for other offices and other political parties.
Among those who spoke were Representative Mike Noel (Kanab). His remarks were openly [...]

Dear Rocky,
Before the dust settles completely on the anti-bush rally, I want to make you aware of some problems -technical and philosophical - that Wednesday’s rally presented. I am writing while they are still fresh in my mind.
As you know, I was on the organizing committee for the “rally†last spring. In [...]

Hatch’s “Nutcake†comment ignited a firestorm, which transformed into a seething, slow-burning resentment, earning institutionalized permanency as a badge of honor in the form of stickers and signs prominently displayed throughout Utah.
The clumsy, deliberately self-defeating, ineptitude of the August 30th Organizing Committee failed to seize and fully exploit that resentment given the opportunity provided by [...]

John Dean, Republican advisor to Richard Nixon has written a deeply disturbing book about the conservative right’s growing move toward authoritarianism and blind loyalty. Its an old concept. It still works, and always will.

Yet another poll reflects a correlation between education and possession of the facts.
43% of Americans still believe Saddam Hussein was personally involved in 9/11. At the same time, there was little difference by party affiliation.
By Education:
57% - No high school degree
54% - High school degree
39% - Some college
26% - College degree
19% - Post grad
That anyone [...]

Update: Emily’s opponent has bought her name on Google too! Click AWAY!
A little known (in his own state) Utah State Senate republican candidate in the first real political race of his life, has taken the well know (as infantile) tact of registering his opponents name, Emily Hollingshead, in the pay-per-click services of several [...]

HAPPY LABOR DAY!….Courtesy of the Detroit Free Press, here’s a handy map showing how far median incomes have dropped over the past six years. And it’s good news for most of you: Compared to Michigan and North Carolina you’re not doing so badly after all. So stop your sniveling.

I don’t think I have ever seen anything more pitiful than Michelle Malkin’s lecture at her alma mater, Oberlin College on Feb 15, 2006 re-aired on C-Span today. It’s been over 45 minutes now, and this little thinks-she-the-Phillipino-Barbie has done nothing but read a prepared list of a insignificant number of the incredibly rare reports [...]

How it is we fully occupy Afganistan, control the borders and 92% of the US heroin trade is coming from there?
What does the right-wing talking points manual say about that Ken?

It’s that time of year: The beginning of school. Ah, yes, the homework grind, hearing from teachers on your child’s progress, getting the kids to bed early, and learning that your child now wants to enlist in the military after talking to recruiters in school.
(music somes to a screeching halt).
Did you [...]

On Wednesday August 30th I expected George W. Bush to speak to the American Legion National Convention as his office had announced in earlier in the month. As the day approached for Bush’s visit we learned that the American Legion would also be visited by Secretaries Rice and Rumsfeld. It was [...]
