Bush and Rumsfeld’s Global Houses of Horror

Time to wake up and smell the boiling flesh. Here is small sample of some of the brutality being perpetrated and later excused on behalf of our so-called, “War on Terror.”

Moazzam Begg, is a British born citizen of the United Kingdom. He was living in Islamabad, Pakistan in February 2002 following a humanitarian mission to Afghanistan. He was taken by CIA agents in Pakistan without cause and taken to a US run military prison called Bagram Air Base and later transferred to Guantanamo Bay. He was beaten, tortured and got to watch two of his fellow detainees murdered. He was later released without charge.

Maher Arar a Syrian born, Canadian citizen was arrested without charge and secretly imprisoned by the US Government. He was then “rendered” to Syria through the CIA where he was tortured for 1 year. President Bush as well as Condoleeza Rice have publicly attacked Syria’s record of torture and human rights abuses. Why would they render this man to Syria to be tortured? Surely he must be a “terrorist”, or an “unlawful enemy combatant?” Not just no, but HELL NO! He was completely innocent.

An investigation by the Canadian government cleared him of any and all wrongdoing.
The former British Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Craig Murray, exposed how the United States was sending “unlawful combatants” from Afghanistan to the most gruesome death imaginable by the former communist Uzbek regime. Craig Murray served as Ambassador to Uzbekistan from 2002-2004 during a time that the United States was operating a Halliburton owned base in that country. The Halliburton-US Air Base in Uzbekistan was used to launch air attacks and bombings of Afghanistan. Ambassador Murray states that, “it was one of the first cases I came across, back in August or September of 2002. Two Muslim prisoners . . . were boiled to death.” They died after being immersed in boiling liquid at chest level!

The establishment would have you believe that this is about fighting and killing evil “terrorists.” George W. Bush claims that we are capturing and detaining the world’s most dangerous terrorists and killers. Who were these men in the photos? Are they blood thirsty killers or jihadist maniacs? I submit to you all that I had personal contact with a former US Army Intelligence Officer who shall remain anonymous. He worked as a US Army interrogator from 2001 - 2003. During that period of time he was involved with questioning thousands of prisoners at both Guantanamo Bay and Abu Graib. Many prisoners at Gitmo were taken during the invasion of Afghanistan. My anonymous source swore to me that more than 80% of the detained and tortured prisoners were completely innocent. Not only were the detainees not terrorists, they had nothing to do with any armed resistance against the invasion of their countries. Most were arrested and imprisoned on hearsay from a neighbor or relative with an axe to grind.

The photos posted below are really the tip of the iceberg as far as the torture and abuse goes. These photos were taken at Abu Graib, Iraq where President Bush, Don Rumsfeld and a compliant Congress continue Saddam’s legacy of torture and terror at Iraq’s most notorious prison. Let’s not forget that Abu Graib is not even closed for business! Neither is Bagram Air Base or Guantanamo Bay. How far will this go?

It’s already gone way toooo far, and as you say, it’s only the tip of the iceberg. Where are the Weapons of Mass Destruction? Answer, we have them, we’ve had ‘em for a long time, we purchased them with our tax dollars and the sacrifice of much of our social support system. Our children and grandchildren will be paying with thier life-energy as well. Where is the $5.000.000.000 (that’s billion, folks) a month going? I could goon, the list is long… Call me vitriolic, but I feel I have some ‘values’ here to preserve. Now, hows about another nice vote for these nice men and women that are presently doing such a splendid job?

Editor’s note: Kevin Tillman joined the Army with his brother Pat in 2002, and they served together in Iraq and Afghanistan. Pat was killed in Afghanistan on April 22, 2004. Kevin, who was discharged in 2005, has written a powerful, must-read document.

It is Pat’s birthday on November 6, and elections are the day after. It gets me thinking about a conversation I had with Pat before we joined the military. He spoke about the risks with signing the papers. How once we committed, we were at the mercy of the American leadership and the American people. How we could be thrown in a direction not of our volition. How fighting as a soldier would leave us without a voice… until we get out.

Much has happened since we handed over our voice:

Somehow we were sent to invade a nation because it was a direct threat to the American people, or to the world, or harbored terrorists, or was involved in the September 11 attacks, or received weapons-grade uranium from Niger, or had mobile weapons labs, or WMD, or had a need to be liberated, or we needed to establish a democracy, or stop an insurgency, or stop a civil war we created that can’t be called a civil war even though it is. Something like that.

Somehow America has become a country that projects everything that it is not and condemns everything that it is.

Somehow our elected leaders were subverting international law and humanity by setting up secret prisons around the world, secretly kidnapping people, secretly holding them indefinitely, secretly not charging them with anything, secretly torturing them. Somehow that overt policy of torture became the fault of a few “bad apples” in the military.

Somehow back at home, support for the soldiers meant having a five-year-old kindergartener scribble a picture with crayons and send it overseas, or slapping stickers on cars, or lobbying Congress for an extra pad in a helmet. It’s interesting that a soldier on his third or fourth tour should care about a drawing from a five-year-old; or a faded sticker on a car as his friends die around him; or an extra pad in a helmet, as if it will protect him when an IED throws his vehicle 50 feet into the air as his body comes apart and his skin melts to the seat.

Somehow the more soldiers that die, the more legitimate the illegal invasion becomes.

Somehow American leadership, whose only credit is lying to its people and illegally invading a nation, has been allowed to steal the courage, virtue and honor of its soldiers on the ground.

Somehow those afraid to fight an illegal invasion decades ago are allowed to send soldiers to die for an illegal invasion they started.

Somehow faking character, virtue and strength is tolerated.

Somehow profiting from tragedy and horror is tolerated.

Somehow the death of tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of people is tolerated.

Somehow subversion of the Bill of Rights and The Constitution is tolerated.

Somehow suspension of Habeas Corpus is supposed to keep this country safe.

    Somehow torture is tolerated.

    Somehow lying is tolerated.

Somehow reason is being discarded for faith, dogma, and nonsense.

Somehow American leadership managed to create a more dangerous world.

Somehow a narrative is more important than reality.

Somehow America has become a country that projects everything that it is not and condemns everything that it is.

Somehow the most reasonable, trusted and respected country in the world has become one of the most irrational, belligerent, feared, and distrusted countries in the world.

Somehow being politically informed, diligent, and skeptical has been replaced by apathy through active ignorance.

Somehow the same incompetent, narcissistic, virtueless, vacuous, malicious criminals are still in charge of this country.

    Somehow this is tolerated.

Somehow nobody is accountable for this.

In a democracy, the policy of the leaders is the policy of the people. So don’t be shocked when our grandkids bury much of this generation as traitors to the nation, to the world and to humanity. Most likely, they will come to know that “somehow” was nurtured by fear, insecurity and indifference, leaving the country vulnerable to unchecked, unchallenged parasites.

Luckily this country is still a democracy. People still have a voice. People still can take action. It can start after Pat’s birthday.

Kevin Tillman stated it very well, I can only add, I hope that after Halloween, the spooks and thier death-wish go to thier graves and begin again to behave themselves. Otherwise I might have to get nekkid and walk up Main Street in protest like my forefathers before me. Now people, we wouldn’t want to see that, now would we? And I know I won’t be alone. This could be VERY, VERY ugly. Enough said.
