Has Anyone Endorsed Cannon?
Does anyone know if anyone or any Utah-based organization is endorsing Cannon? I checked his website and its just Bush, Sensenbrenner and the NRA.
What about the Governor, Hatch, Bennet? Anyone? Help me?

I have! I endorsed Cannon for eternal banishment from Kolob!
In fact, I have instructed the inhabitants of the Special K to create a spherical fence about the planet, similar to the fence Bush and Cannon are constructing between Mexico and the US. to keep Cannon out.
He has no positions. He IS a rubber stamp.
Nephi, substituting for HF.

Cannon doesn’t even get the honor of the Utah Eagle Forum’s endorsement this year- that one was doled out to the uber-conservative second incarnation of The Peoples Party, also known as the Constitution Party! (You know, the guys who use the pretense of a restoration of the monolithic ‘founders intent’ for their neoconservative agenda based upon a narrow interpretation of doctrinal ‘Christian’ and Mormon orthodoxy?)
Because, GOD IS ALL OVER THE CONSTITUTION.
Oh wait, he’s not even mentioned in it! DRATS!

Yo Tom,
If GOD were not involved, then explain how Jonah survived three days in the belly of the Great Fish?
“Bush is fear, and without fear, Bush is nothing.”

Are you kidding Tom? You would know right? I’m serious.
Isn’t it common courtesy to endorse your fellow party colleagues?
I just assumed…
You see where I’m headed? Am I right that Cannon could otherwise take certain endorsments for granted?

Eagle Forum Endorses Constitution Party Candidates
The following notices were recently sent to Eagle Forum members:
EAGLES!!
Jim is one of ours and needs our support!
US HOUSE, District 3 –
Jim Noorlander
Jim is a regular speaker at our Annual Utah Eagle Forum Convention because of his common sense and clear understanding of the problems that concern us and the logical solutions to those problems. He does the job, whatever it is, without ever seeking praise.
When it comes to problems, his motto could be — Identify it, Tackle it, Solve it. That’s why he is an excellent choice to represent us in
Congress!

Scott is one of ours and needs our support!
US SENATE –
Scott Bradley
Scott is a long-time member of Utah Eagle Forum, a regular speaker at our annual convention, and, most importantly, he is a scolar of the US Constitution.
He KNOWS the Constitution and he UNDERSTANDS the original intent of the Founders. The Constitution is under constant attack and if we wish to save it, we need our public servants to be . . . Scott Bradley!

On the contrary, Tom, God is quite clearly mentioned in the Constitution:
“Done in Convention by the Unanimous Consent of the States present the Seventeenth Day of September in the Year of our _LORD_ one thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven…” (emphasis added).
Though the reference doesn’t exactly support the Constitutionalist Party and common conservative Christian/Mormon contention that the Constitution was the revealed will of God, or that the Founders uniformly sought to enthrone Christianity as a central feature of the U.S…

OneNephi,
Touche. You are correct about Jonah and the Great Fish.
Derek,
Come on, man. No offense, but that argument is quite ridiculous. EVERY document of that time was dated in that manner. It’s hardly an invocation of Diety as justification for our government. I wish people would REALLY study the Founders and their divergent arguments and opinions. The institutions of this nation were patterned after Roman, Greek and English traditions not “Judeo-Christian” traditions.
Cliff,
Cannon is a slimeball, for certain. I think the CP is a manifestation of frustration by literalist Christians/Mormons in the Republican Party both with morality (beyond just sexual, actually including ethics) and an ignored agenda. The GOP has failed to enact legislation thwarting the things literalist Christians fear most (terrorists/Muslims, gays, abortions, liberal activist judges). So while Cannon’s morally rudderless behavior is certainly a contributer to the CP, it is in an of itself not the reason the Eagle Forum endorsed the CP. The CP has a very, very scary ideaology. I did an interview with their 1st district candidate, Mark Hudson that was way too long to air, but I made a podcast out of it. It’s quite revealing about how a VERY LARGE number of Utahns view the relationship between government and formal religion.

Did anyone catch one of Cannon’s fly by night T.V. ads on KUED? He appeared to be “under the gun” almost literally during the 30 second spot. His bloodshot eyes shifted from right to left of the camera as he rambled on about the terrorist ideology overtaking the young men of the Muslim world.
Could it be that Dick Cheney and his Halliburton/KBR men had their hunting rifles trained on his head from their positions outside the view of the Camera?

You are quite right, Tom, that argument would be quite ridiculous were it serious. But I made it entirely tongue in cheek. That is why I added the deliberately understated little disclaimer at the end. Sorry if it wasn’t as droll as I intended. I don’t think you can separate out the Judeo-Christian influence from the background of “The Founders,” but as that disclaimer implied, I absolutely do not believe that The Constitutional Convention intended God or religion to be a justification for the government or connected to the government.

Then if it is unanimous that NO sitting republican elected by the people of Utah has endorsed Chris Cannon, and as such follows that such republicans have refused a request to do so whether implied or implicit, it is thereby concluded;
No republicans of note including the five highest ranking elected officials in Utah have refused to endorse Chris Cannon of re-election to the US Senate. These would include Governor Hunstman, Lt. Governor Herbert, Sens Hatch and Bennet, and representative Ron Bishop.
I don’t want to be accused of
Who wants to write the top post?

Yes Nate, I saw the KUED debate as well and I was also shocked at the incoherence of Cannon’s answers. I’m trying to reach Ellen Birrel who was in the audience to find out if the atmosphere in the room was as morose as it seemed.
The ones that didn’t look outright angry appeared at least pissed.

The NRA endorsement shouldn’t count. They automatically endorse any incumbent with an NRA-line voting record. There’s no actual review of Cannon’s record beyond that, including his vote to expand the PATRIOT act to gun shops. I guess if Republicans want it, it’s okay with the NRA.

Derrek,
I am sorry I missed the TIC. My bad. Not enough sleep lately. I should have known better given the blog you write.
