Initiative 3: Money for Nothing and the Check Is on Me (And You)

Many LanesWhat is this I see? A bait and switch on Salt Lake County? A sales tax increase for Traxx you say? But what is that superhighway I see by the way? Yes, I see it now out there on the Western Horizon. All these dupes in Salt Lake are in for a surprise when,Instead of a rail line to serve their future needs
They pay more for food and the toll booth fees,
geez, guys what happened to initiative 3
I thought we’d have trains for as long as I could see.
But UDOT, Curtis and Valentine scarfed it up just like swine.
Too late tonight to take back and rewind
All that money is in UDOT’s bottom line
and it’s a way for the ages to remember us by

Why, a Legacy Indeed but of what I can’t bear
Environmental destruction, congested, polluted air
No it’s for Rails Utah. Yes it is oh, I swear.
Do prepare for this fake, don’t make a mistake
The only rail your gettin goes to DayBreak!

Or maybe a public official or two on the take
to stop these parasites would take an earthquake
Where is the Airport and Sugarhouse spur
It all happened so fast it was just like a blur
I’m unsure how to vote now lost in a mire
A rapid rail system is what I desire
So let’s fire the contractors and UDOT too
And make our whole transit system anew!

  1. UtahOwl Says:

..which is why I voted against Prop 3 - in spite of my deep desire for money to finish TRAX to the airport…and maybe a spur to Sugarhouse?

I simply don’t trust the Utah Valley GOP oligarchs who run the Utah Legislature any further than I can throw them ( and most of ‘em aint skinny minnies). First they say “MINE is the right to decide what transit projects get funded - you counties can’t even do that. Just pay the tax.” Dare I say, they’ll ‘choose the right’ and we little children just get to pay for it?

And a big BOOOO! to the Chamber of Commerce, who sab0taged the Salt Lake Cty property tax initiative targetted directly as MASS TRANSIT by lobbying their friends in the Lege to behave badly.. totally irresponsible, fellows. Wouldn’t cross the street to keep y’all from drowning, from this point on.

  2. Richard Warnick Says:

Every flyer, ad and news story talks about Prop 3 as if TRAX is priority number 1. It’s the very definition of bait and switch. The Deseret News predicts it will pass by a 2-1 margin. Too bad even the Sierra Club was gullible enough to endorse this blank check.

  3. Doug White Says:

There will be a open meeting to discuss Trolley and transit developments in SSL and Sugarhouse, on Jan 9th , 7 pm to 8 pm, Pioneer Craft House, 550 E. 33rd S. SSL.
