Utah Senate Needs This “Real Man”

…and Scott McCoy is one.

Follows is a post from earlier this year that sparked international acclaim. It speaks to why we MUST re-elect tough, honest real Utah women and men like Scott McCoy.

Post - March 1st 2006

Utah got her first openly gay State Senator several years ago in a mid-term procedure in which delegates-only voted for a young lawyer named Scott McCoy. On that day, something changed in Utah.

Last week, history was made when the sponsoring senator and a friend made a full frontal assault on homosexuality which elicited one of the most powerful, elegant responses in defense of homosexuality that certainly the Utah State Senate has ever heard or that I have ever heard.
“Gay and Lesbian people are going to live in the state of Utah.
We’re gonna be in the high schools.
And we’re gonna have families.
And we’re gonna be raising them here.

And I would simply ask
that you allow us to do that
and leave us – alone.”

This is a MUST HEAR.  Such a claim has been made only twice this year. I have edited several audio versions of Scott’s Speech for your convenience:

Speech plus all following testimony - 20 minutes – .wma

Scott’s speech plus 1-minute preview of Buttars’ & friend testimony -7.5 minutes .wma
By popular demand un-edited testimony preceeding Scott’s speech -16 minutes - .wma

The entire session – 22 minutes - .wma

This bill passed. Governor Jon Huntsman refused to sign it for which reason he will get my vote always and forever.

Please re-elect Scott MCoy to the Utah State Senate.

  1. Ed Firmage Says:

Scott McCoy is my man. My Candidate. There is no one in second place. He should become a fixture in the Utah State Legislature until he is Governor. After being a real bona fide Congressman who really knows and loves Utah. Not like any of the half-wits or dim-wits there now, without exception. Then, for my two-bits worth, Scott for Senator from the pretty-great state of Utah. Followed by gentle relaxation in the governor’s mansion for the remainder of his political life. Freudian slip there Ed? I didn’t think you were gay. Is he gay?

What is up with all this gay stuff? I thought this was about vanquishing the neocons?
