Be it ever so humble……

….there’s no place like god-blessed America.

President Bush’s Thanksgiving Day Proclamation

As Americans gather with family and friends to celebrate Thanksgiving Day, we give thanks for the many ways that our nation and our people have been blessed.At this time of great promise for America, we are grateful for the freedoms guaranteed by our Constitution and defended by our armed forces throughout the generations.
  • Wait, aren’t our freedoms being compromised? Does the Constitution really matter anymore?
Today, many of these courageous men and women are securing our peace in places far from home, and we pay tribute to them and to their families for their service, sacrifice and strength. We also honor the families of the fallen and lift them up in our prayers.Our citizens are privileged to live in the world’s freest country, where the hope of the American dream is within the reach of every person.
  • Really? Every person?
Americans share a desire to answer the universal call to serve something greater than ourselves, and we see this spirit every day in the millions of volunteers throughout our country who bring hope and healing to those in need. On this Thanksgiving Day, and throughout the year, let us show our gratitude for the blessings of freedom, family and faith, and may God continue to bless America.And not the rest of the world?Now, therefore, I, George W. Bush, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim Thursday, November 23, 2006, as a National Day of Thanksgiving. I encourage all Americans to gather together in their homes and places of worship with family, friends and loved ones to reinforce the ties that bind us and give thanks for the freedoms and many blessings we enjoy.
  • George and God have proclaimed it - make it so.

Let us give thanks while the death toll continues to rise in Iraq, Palestinians continue to be pounded by Israeli forces, Ethnic Cleansing continues in Darfur, and here in the U.S. Rich property owners are evicting low income families from their homes in New Orleans, Homelessness and hunger are siginificant unpublicized issues, millions of people in the U.S. are incarcerated, and millions of Americans do not have adequate healthcare.

Yes, every American has much for which to be thankful. Thank god for George’s proclomation to remind us of that.

    This sugary paternalizm makes me weep with thankfulness. I’ll be weeping with thankfulness tomorrow too, but, thanks anyway George. FOAD. Take your crew with you.

    Deanna

    You remind me of “Debbie the Downer” on Saturday Night Live. I hope you have a happy thanksgiving despite our troubled world. Give my regards to Tom (The pony tail guy) Hee hee. (c;

    Hi Ken - The Pony Tail Guy says “hey”.

    Since I have not watched TV in over 5 years - my contribution to this troubled world - I wouldn’t know about “Debbie the Downer” . What I remember of Saturday Night Live probably is way before your time! I spend my time doing things for which folks are (hopefully) thankful, like volunteering and working on community projects and committees - oh yeah, and crocheting things for my about to be born grandson!

    Congradulations on becoming a grandparent. You haven’t missed much by not watching TV. I have very little time myself for such things. Thanks for your service.

    Ken,

    Life sucks, and then you die. It’s about time you figured that out.
