No Deity Involved In This ‘Just War’

Dear Colleagues,

I thank you for probably violating your own length rules to print my piece on impeachment, No deity involved in this ‘just war’. (print version) I did, really, write the book on this one. Long ago. But we only impeach a president about every hundred years. And I’m a realist.

I also know that there will be hell to pay for this awful war. And I, too, would rather fight elsewhere than on state street. However, it wasn’t Iraq that attacked the United States. It was folks mainly from our supposed allies. George started this one. And we all, in fact, will pay the Karmic cost. Now, sadly, inevitable. I said this in 2001. And in 2002. And 2003. And 2004, 05, and 06. And before that, at the White House within which I served, in the 1960’s. I was in fact a Republican on Hubert Humphrey’s staff. He knew it, and in those lovely days, it was OK.

Things aren’t often what they seem. I don’t know if we in Utah understand this. But in many ancient places, courtesy still counts. And saying you’re sorry goes a very long way. Any gentleman in the Middle East will gladly give his life to protect the guest in his tent. Me too. I’ve proven that, for over 70 years of loyalty, now. From the White House to the United Nations and back again to the West that I love, and for which I would gladly give whatever’s left of my long life. If there is a way that the really guilty folks who did start this war can take the heat they so boundlessly deserve, far better the war criminals who started this pay for their own war, and not New York, San Francisco, Salt Lake City, or Kanab, Kanosh, Kannaraville, or Calao. Fair is fair.

That’s the law. To my responsive letter writing friends here, here, and here, God said:”Renounce war and proclaim peace.” (Doctrine and Covenants, 98:16) Read the good books. They’re still true. Along with the Constitution of the United States. And the treaty law of the land. See, the supremacy clause. And etc.

The Bahagavad Gita, of the Hindu religion would suggest that the Supreme Deity does in fact drive war. As to whether That Deity is selective as to Just or Unjust wars, I cannot say. It is my belief, however that the Really Big Driver would have little qualm rubbing out a whole bunch of critters.
