Vigil Monday Night - So Long For Now

The 3,000th U.S. soldier death in Iraq has been verified. In three years and 9 months since the Iraq War began, American military casualties have now exceeded 25,000. Hundreds of thousands of deaths overall have occurred in this time period as a result of this illegal war and occupation.

There will be a memorial vigil Monday night, January 1, 2007, at 6pm on the sidewalk in front of the Federal Building in downtown Salt Lake (100 South State Street). Details of the vigil are at People for Peace and Justice of Utah.

I have first hand evidence there are people on this planet, besides Bush, who still support this war. These people not only believe the cost in Iraqi and American lives are worth it, but that the death and injury to come are worth it as well.

These people are obsessed with death (example 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) while at the same time unusually obsessive about the birth of new members (example 1, 2, 3) and their birthdays.

I will not reference evidence of early childhood aggression training of their children for fear of retribution. Suffice it to say, they are encouraged to roar like wild animals.

All of the references above span only the past 48 hours.

There are not very many of them left, as most have seen the light and defected. But the ones that remain are loud and mean and nothing will ever change their minds. They are not particularly curious intellectually and have not been served well by whatever education has intersected in their lives. They are generally very ‘white’ very tribal and have NO sense of humor. They seem to have a great deal of unresolved anger and fear.

Scientific studies tell us these people are not interested in truth or fact but instead obedience. They rely on an authority figure to guide them and will follow them and defend them at any cost. They band together in exclusive clans.

Caution: These people seem nice at first, but are have a great capacity for hate and they will kill with little provocation. Do NOT piss them off.

Last August General Barry McCaffrey put the casualty figures in military terms. We are losing the equivalent of a battalion a month in Iraq either killed or wounded (that is 500-600 soldiers). These losses, as you might expect, are borne primarily by combat and combat support units. An all-volunteer Army and Marine Corps simply cannot sustain this rate, and it is now too late to bring back the draft in time to make a difference in Iraq.

  3. Caveat Says:

Barry McCaffrey gets a hard-on whenever he has the privilige to witness a ‘Daisy-cutter’ go off. One sick puppy.

My cynicism regarding news blackouts of antiwar protests was lessened a bit. The Salt Lake Tribune ran a (small) picture and caption, no story though. I salute the stalwarts who went downtown last night to attend the vigil.
