History Was Made Yesterday
Yesterday, Nancy Pelosi became the first woman in history to be Speaker of the House of Representatives!
Pelosi wore purple because the suffragettes used purple as their signature color. Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Alice Paul and Lucy Burns would be proud to be alive today.Â

The San Francisco Chronicle has excerpts from Speaker Pelosi’s speech yesterday. My favorite quote:
“The American people rejected an open-ended obligation to a war without end. Shortly, President Bush will address the nation on the subject of Iraq. It is the responsibility of the president to articulate a new plan for Iraq that makes it clear to the Iraqis that they must defend their own streets and their own security, a plan that promotes stability in the region, and a plan that allows us to responsibly redeploy our troops. ”
In other words– this is Bush’s war, he’s responsible for it and the days of no accountability are over.
