Not Much Difference After All?
Within less than the first 100 hours, Republicans are already complaining that they are “being shut out of the planning process” by the Democrats. The part they don’t tell you is that it’s the same thing they got used to doing to the Democrats when they were in power.
…Republican House members complain about being shut out of the planning process.
…
Republicans employed a similar tactic in their 12 years as the House majority, barring Democrats’ amendments, not letting them see bills until they were to be voted on and giving them little input in committees.
So much for bi-partisanship. Sounds like my little kids. “Dad, he hit me for NO REASON!!” “Huh-uh! She hit me first for NO REASON!!” How about a little maturity here?
Meanwhile, members of the Concerned Women for America and others were turned away by police after attempting to attend Speaker Pelosi’s Open House for the People.
Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, comments, “It is clear that ‘The Open House for the People’s House’ was nothing more than a crass political stunt on the part of Speaker Pelosi. The speaker was never truly interested in hearing different voices and views on a variety of issues…”
What’s up with that?

Republicans gave Democrats much more of a say during their 12 years of power than the Dems did during their 40 year rein of terror. In those days, Republicans were often locked out of committee meetings. Republicans may have gotten a bit tipsy with power over their 12 years, but nothing compared to the outright passed out drunken stupor that the Democrats became famous for, and the reason they were summarily tossed out in 94. Remember the House Bank Scandal?
Remember how Democrats demanded power sharing when they where down by 1 vote in the Senate? Democrats only hold on to both houses by a thread. They are going to need Republicans to get anything they want done. Let the Dems get drunk with power again and it will ensure a Republican victory in 2008.

One bang of the gavel does not a drunk make. But, it’s certainly all it took for the loser repubs to start thier whining. Whining as a governing strategy, how cool is that? That, combined with the repub culture of corruption, almost makes you want to share, and I’m sure the Dems will, but not before assesing the mess that has been born over the last 12 years. That is, of course, what the electorate mandated. One could say, 11-7 changed everything. But don’t worry, your voice will be heard. As long as it’s rational. So, there is a slim chance. Keep after it.

Wow, how fast can you rewrite history? The truth is, we’ve just come to the end of 12 years of incredible malfeasance and nonfeasance on Capitol Hill, plus a level of congressional corruption unprecedented in my lifetime.
Will Democratic members of Congress act like politicians? That’s a sure thing. However they will use their political machinations to enact legislation that the American people want, instead of trying to destroy the Bill of Rights, Social Security or the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
The best thing will be the return of congressional oversight. The Republican rubber-stamp Congress never took seriously its Constitutional duty to ensure that the Executive Branch obeys the law. With results that we have seen during six years of misrule by the Bush administration.

Ken, Do you have any evidence to supprt this claim, “Republicans gave Democrats much more of a say during their 12 years of power than the Dems did during their 40 year rein of terror. In those days, Republicans were often locked out of committee meetings.”
tks

House Minority Leader John Boehner: “What we really expect out of the Democrats is for them to treat us as they would like to have been treated.”
Golden Rule, GOP version?

I remain open to peace with the Repugs, but when I read comments the likes of Ken Bingham’s and the Rev. Mahoney’s, there is a part of me that wants to say “fuck all ya’ll Repugs; grease up, ’cause you’re going to need it.” These Repug sore losers still just don’t get it - you (yes, the likes of you, Ken, and your group-think party-wagon) fucked this country to high-heaven, and we’re not going to let you get away with anymore!

I agree, Nephi.
It would beho0ve all sides of the argument, including Ken, to try and walk around in the other guy’s shoes a little more instead of just saying “The Democrats hit me for NO REASON!”
If someone refuses to try to understand the other guy’s point of view, he’s pretty much lost the battle.
To not agree with or point out the other side when they’ve said or done something meaningful or correct is to lose at least half of that battle–and your integrity.

I would like to see more bipartisanship but on the other hand I don’t trust Republicans to use their minority to actually produce better legislation.
Do I need to talk about how they held the vote open for the medicare bill and also lied about the cost?
What about the whole Terry fiasco?
Not to mention the handling of Iraq (or lack there of). Do you remember the way Republicans treated a decorated veteran Rep. Murtha?
I could go on and on just over the past couple of years.
The way I see it you don’t hand the keys back to someone that has been caught drinking and driving over and over again and still has liqueur on their breathe.
Oh And by the way those “40 years rein of terror” was the most prosperous period in our nations history.

I really would like to see saddam’s 12 year old grand daughter kick your sissy a–.
Maybe i could arrange a charity boxing match between you and certain partially disabled member of AARP who would love to kick your a–. Of course, we will have to do it in Wyoming or some other nearby location where it will be legal.
Then we will donate 100% of the proceeds to that little girl in Haditha whose family was murdered by your little b—- friends.
Then we’ll find out what a tough war hero you are and do a good deed at the same time.
