For our readers not from Utah, Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson is and enigma here in Utah — loved by those of us not threatened by the idea of a reality-based unified world community and hated by many more rural Utahns suspicious of progress.
Rocky made his mark in the world by speaking out against this war and this president long before it was popular for local politicians….oh yeah, it still isn’t.

During the last half of my time in Iraq I started hearing something about torture and about secret prisons across the world. I didn’t see how it could be true. Now it seems that it is. For George Bush to feign that God is on the side of someone who lied to get us into a war in the first place is a bit more than ironic.
I am glad to hear Rocky talking about the importance of upholding the Constitution of the United States. It’s not something, honestly, that I thought Democrats cared much about. I don’t mean that as an affront, just my perspective. I agree that it is Constitutionally important that the Bush administration be held accountable for its misleading of the American people.

Jeez, and just when I was suffering that extremely odd moment of realizing my inner neocon. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot..Is this still America? Whatever happened to ‘Bombs away’? or was that just another focus group.
Somebody needs to bend the ‘Church’ President ear and convince him to condemn any more aggression in the ME. This plan to Nuke Iran must be thwarted. Gonna take some heavy-hitters. Like…tomorrow!

What does the world community have to do with a mess created by a lackadaisical American attitude. This war is a bi-partisan effort, hook, line, and sinker, and do not sully the world community by somehow including them in the responsibility in SACKING this president.
There is no world community or this war would NOT be happening, dream on. WE OWN IT!
The responsibility is OURS alone, and we should not expect anyone to help us, any more than you help a 6 year old pick up his toys, learn the lesson.

Even though a mayor running for President is not the conventional route, I think Rocky’s honesty and straightforwardness would get tremendous support from the grassroots, netroots and elsewhere.

Why do you think Rocky is a shitty mayor? I hear people say that a lot, but I have never heard anyone (progressive) defend that statement very well.

I guess as an outside observer, he is just a divisive character, not his fault, just planted in the wrong ground. For those who want moderation of views, that would make him “shitty”.
