Trib Comes Up for Air; Deseret News: “You Smell Something Funny?”
The Salt Lake Tribune has come out editorially condemning the ill-timed and ill-conceived budget cuts for DEQ proposed by a legislative committee, as I wrote about earlier here. Meanwhile, the hapless and hypnotized Deseret News finally decided the inversion is a story (public health is INTERESTING!) and produced both an article and a column today (two of the three pieces they’ve done over the past three weeks of inversion). Doug Robinson’s lame recognition that “our air stinks” is filled with old information that other media have covered repeatedly, to the benefit of a forgiveably-ignorant and short-memoried public. Of course, presented high in Doug’s column- before the BAD news- is his assessment that “it’s not as bad as it used to be.” Guess that doesn’t make it dangerous anymore, eh Doug? I’m surprised the editors at Deseret didn’t pull a Holly Mullen and toss this “negative” piece back on Robinson’s desk and tell him to come up with something more “positive”- you know, like “particulate deflects deadly ultra violet rays so don’t worry about skin cancer.” Or “orange sky is a nice change from that boring old blue.” Meanwhile, Deseret’s story on the DEQ cuts last week never mentions the current air crisis nor what would happen if Utah loses control of its air and water quality programs by not funding them and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is forced to take them over. It’s clear the Deseret News considers air quality and public health in Utah less important than, say, a pro soccer team and bank robbing couples. Perhaps they’ll celebrate their kids’ first chronic respiratory disease as another rite of passage. Bad air is like missions: they’ll have to pay for it.

Everything changed after 1-30-07. It was determined by ‘the wise-men on the hill’ that no division of environmental quality whatsoever, was needed, (since there was no quality). Mutate or die, Bitches.

I have a masochistic co-worker who checks the EPA’s AirNow website every day for PM 2.5 and every day he tells me Salt Lake has the worst air in the nation.

If it’s true (even if it’s not), you’d think that might warrant a mention from one of our local stations or papers. I have not seen that but I’ll check it out. Thanks for the tip.

Sure enough, it’s the worst, at least today. I’m not going to torture One Utah’s readers anymore. To see my post, go to my blog http://schreinervideo.blogspot.com/

Has anyone ever hear ANYONE of our leaders (except Rocky) EVER mention the air quality?
I haven’t.

Of course they won’t mention it. Maybe my publicity has paid off.

If Chris Buttars were spouting this year like years gone by, then I could understand the smog, but the asshole has been relatively quiet this legislative session (calm before the storm??). Maybe it’s Ruzicka? Has the Utah County Witch been spouting? If so, that would sure go along way toward explaining things!

Sorry, Nephi- I’m new here. Can you explain your comment? Thanks.

Be happy to, Ken.
When Buttars speaks about things like intelligent design and gays, folks have detected a stream of pollution that spews from his mouth. The stream generally contains particulate matter and is loaded with NOx and SOx and stinks to high heaven. As you may have noticed, the inversions in the SL valley are generally worse during the months the legislature is in session, which is when Buttars tends to speak the most. Thus, a direct (or near direct) link between the filthy air and Chris Buttars.
This year, however, Buttars has been surprisingly quiet (at least when compared with the new scumbag on the hill - Aaron Tilton). So the pollution must be coming from somewhere else. During the legislative session, Ruzika is also present in the valley and speaks voluminously (and spews the same toxic brew from her mouth that spews from Buttars). Hence, another direct link, proving that the air pollution in the SL valley is attributable not only to Buttars, but to Ruzika, too.
I hope that helps, Ken. I’m certain it would all become clear as day if you simply allow yourself to think like a legislator from rural Utah (or anywhere in Utah county). The direct links stated above will become perfectly clear, just like when Buttars links, for example, gay clubs to the demise of school children everywhere.
