World’s Biggest Energy Hog Going Green? Energy Department Doing Weapons Tests? Who’s in Charge Here… Oh, Wait- I Forgot

You know the message is getting out when the largest power user on the planet, the United States Department of Defense, takes steps to cut its energy consumption for whatever reason.

But let’s review: The Department of Energy is ordered by Congress to install solar power for the first time in history while the DOE wastes its time and our money planning a quasi-nuclear bomb test in Nevada. Meanwhile, DOD is voluntarily thinking environmentally and quietly pushing for a timetable for withdrawl from Iraq. If I didn’t know who was running things in Washington, and I was, say, Rush Limbaugh or some other corporate media type, I’d be screaming about official incompetence. Oh, but I forgot again- Rush isn’t looking out for YOU. His job is to cover his GOP buddies’ sorry asses. And, in Washington these days- no one can hear you scream anyway.

  1. Richard Warnick Says:

I remember Ronald Reagan was going to abolish the Department of Energy before he found out that they also were in charge of nuclear weapons. More recently, in 1995 the GOP-controlled Congress discussed moving the weapons program to the Department of Defense and then dumping DOE. But it is almost impossible to shut down a federal government department, not matter how inefficient of even dysfunctional it may be.

  2. Ken Schreiner Says:

Bush’s legacy may not be Iraq, 9/11, Hurricane Katrina or any of those debacles, but the Homeland Security Department. That’s a gift that will keep giving for a long time.
