US is Police State - Founding Fathers Rolling in Grave
Big surprise right? Not really. Civil liberties went out the door under the Bush administration. Anyone who thinks we are any freer that The Soviet Union was/is, is fooling themselves.
Tales abound of illegal detentions and arrests of peaceful protesters and political enemies of the Bush administration since 9/11. People like Ken B. may find this justified, legal and even funny, but that would require utter ignorance of our constitution and what America used to stand for.
We will be seeing much more of this as these trials move up the dockets and civil servants begin to cover their asses.
Police Log Confirms FBI Role In Arrests, Group Detained, Questioned During D.C. War Protest
A secret FBI intelligence unit helped detain a group of war protesters in a downtown Washington parking garage in April 2002 and interrogated some of them on videotape about their political and religious beliefs, newly uncovered documents and interviews show.
For years, law enforcement authorities suggested it never happened. The FBI and D.C. police said they had no records of such an incident. And police told a federal court that no FBI agents were present when officers arrested more than 20 protesters that afternoon for trespassing; police viewed them as suspicious for milling around the parking garage entrance.
I real patriot would be screaming about this. I won’t hold my breath for something on Kens Blog.

Comparisons to the Soviet Union, or even present-day Russia, are a bit much. The FBI is not the KGB, they’re just not that good at what they do. Guantanamo is un-American in the extreme, but it’s not the Gulag Archipelago. Yet.

tory bush: We have been too permissive as a society, this reckless abandonment of civil liberties is a good thing. A good beating for not keeping your mouth shut is how order is kept. Now practise your goosestep, and remain quiet.
You know what tories say, “Better to hang the wrong man, than no man at all”
I’m happy at these developments, it will make the application of Patriot Constitutional JUSTICE, so much sweeter.

Breaking News: the folks over at Atrios.blogspot.com are busily grinding Orrin as I write.

Stunning news goes unreported, (or sort of reported), or MSNBC is complicit in a Karl Rove trick.
I don’t know exactly how long this image was frozen on MSNBC this morning, but it was on for an hour after I turned on my set. There was a still image of a guy standing at the podium of the White House press room. The prominent caption above the crawl at the bottom of the screen said:
KARL ROVE PROTESTS
PROTESTING STUDENTS THROW OBJECTS AT KARL ROVES CAR

Keith Olbermann just covered the Karl Rove incident, but none of the other “news” stations were covering it today in favor of Obama and Hillary stories.

Nice one, Caveat. Orrin, Rush and all the other fat bastard liars are taking a serios grilling. Even Ken B. might ought to take note of some of the lies that callously spew from these fucks’ mouths.

On the non-violent side of things, some very good news for Utah Democrats. The protests of Cheney at BYU were attended by 250 students according to KSL television. KSL also reported that the counter Republican rally was “much smaller.”
War and oil profiteering isn’t popular there apparently.

I am not for any government abuses no matter what party is in office, but did you protest when President Bill Clinton sicked the IRS on protesters in his day? Remember all the people close to the Clinton’s that ended up dead. The term “Arkanside” was coined for a reason. Clinton destroyed thousands of lives during his presidency, and Hillary would even be worse because as I have always suspected most the Clinton scandals had more to do with Hillary than Bill, who was just as happy getting the occasional intern. If Bush was as bad as the Clinton’s, people like the good Mayor of Salt Lake, Cindy Sheehan, and the like would all be facing serious anal exams by the IRS, FBI, NSA, and investigated by thugs like Anthony Pellicano, or lying face down in Ft, Marcy Park. The Clinton’s succeeded in things that Richard Nixon tried but failed to do. It is important to revisit all the corruption of the Clinton years because Mrs. Bill Clinton wants to start the reign of terror all over again. George W. Bush is a boy scout in comparison to the most evil and vile Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Ken,
You may be too young to remember, but we liberals protested many things Clinton during his terms.
The gigantic difference between politically active liberals and conservatives is liberals are non-discriminatory critics of everyone regardless of party. Bush conservatives blindly support Bush.
Thats why we laugh when you bring up Clinton. We criticized him too.
Try following dailykos for once. We mercilessly attack the democratic establishment.
You just assume we are loyal to our side like you are to yours. But if you look more closely, you will find that is not the case at all.
Its the difference between being a free thinker and intellectually curious vs being loyal to a tribe.

the one that floored me most was bushes withdrawal of the fox appointment to the ambassador of belgium, then turning around and making that very same appt in congresses absense. bush does not care at all. that much is clear. impeach!

Cliff,
This is a concept that I didn’t understand until about a year ago. I respect liberals for protesting everything and not just what the other side does. Obviously I don’t agree with them all the time ;-) but I agree with them more than I thought I would.
There are far too many conservatives who are in lock-step just because their fearless leader or radio talk show host is in the same party.
However, I wish to open a new can of worms–that of academia. There are far to many academics who indoctrinate rather than teach. In almost all cases, it seems to me, the indoctrination that occurs is of the liberal mindset.

Ken:
I’ve never been able to understand why the Republicans went after Clinton for spilling his seed on Monica’s dress if they already had overwhelming evidence of hundreds of murders.
If you need proof that I’m not a blind follower of Democrats, take a look at these posts I did on Marcos Moulitsas, (comment #16), and Orrin Hatch’s Democratic opponent Pete Ashdown.
Do you think I was tough enough on those two guys?
I can’t stand Hillary Clinton.

Ken B.,
Yet again: huh? You have got to stop reading the comments at KSL.com. Those people are generally the most uneducated in Utah, and the dumbest also, and can do little more for the blog world than repeat Hannity talking points. Try thinking for yourself for a change, and leave the Hannity BS in the toilet where it belongs.
“Arkancide”?? Give me a break!

To all of you. It won’t matter who is in office until the whole lot of them are voted out. I have not seen one word here or on dailykos about the hypocritical democrat leadership. Before the election all they could talk about was how they would change the way politics work in Washington. They would not require money to meet with the leaders like the evil republicans had. When they were elected and power shifted so did their plans for change. They are just as unethical as the Republicans. It is a 6 of one, half dozen of the other situation. The only place you might hear about it is NPR, and that was only a 90 second news story. As I look through dailykos the only thing said about democrats is that they are not doing enough to beat up the president. It is all a load of… I’d better stop there.
Have a nice day!

Hi Brian,
You’re dead wrong about DailyKos. I took about ten minutes once and found a whole bunch of post FROM KOS himself basing democrats for hypocrisies, spinelessness etc.
There was much more of it before the last election. I would go dig it up again for you, but I don’t have time today (their search function sucks). But if you read Kos religiously, you will see.

Better yet, read Crashing the Gate: Netroots, Grassroots, and the Rise of People-Powered Politics, which is now out in paperback. Jerome Armstrong and Markos Moulitsas (aka kos) take the Dems to task for everything the party has done wrong.
