It’s Not the Sex, It’s The Hypocrisy

The vast amount of sleaze and corruption flowing from the Bush administration truly boggles the mind.

The loyal Bushie appointee whose job was selling abstinence to Africa has been caught hiring prostitutes in DC.  The Madam in question apparently has an extensive list of the powerful who have used her service - I’m guessing members of both parties.  As I see it, the corruption isn’t hiring escorts and/or prostitutes; what is corrupt is purshing an abstinence only, be faithful, sex negative agenda and also hiring prostitutes.

US Deputy Secretary of State Randall Tobias, the Bush loyalist in question, as part of his no sex outside of marriage campaign against AIDS, required groups to take an “anti-prositution loyalty oath” to receive US funds.  Someone like this using a prostitute is simply a rank hypocrite who deserves any and all public scorn he receivess

  1. Richard Warnick Says:

CNN reported yesterday that Tobias just used the Pamela Martin and Associates escort service for “messages.” You know, like Western Union.

  2. Thomas W. Clay Says:

I see that you have already found him guilty.

Personally, I agree with you (I think he is guilty), but I find that many political idiologues presume guilty unless proven… Well, they are always guilty, unless the person (or people) involved are of the same party, then these idiologues start screaming “Innocent until proven guilty, and maybe even after that!”

These idiologues exist all over the political spectrum. Your post leads me to believe you are one of them.

  3. Glenden Brown Says:

Thomas - so you agree with me but you think I’m wrong and an ideologue? Hm . . .

If I thought he all he had done was get massages I wouldn’t have said much at all but his resignation suggests to me that he got more than a massage - after all if the only service he paid for was massage, there’s no problem if other people at the escort service were paying for more than massage. Millions pay for massages on a regular basis. That’s not shameful or problematic. Massage can be therapeutic and healthy. If it turns out that Tobias Randall paid for and received nothing but massage, one has to wonder why he resigned.

  4. Thomas W. Clay Says:

“I may have gotten a massage from that beautiful woman, but I didn’t enjoy it!”

    :)

My complaint was how you said it. You wrote your entry in such a way that it is already determined that he is guilty, when no such determination has been made by the courts, nor has he made any confession.

Not that I believe him :)

It is my opinion that it would have been more appropriate to write your post in such a was as to indicate that it is your opinion that he is guilty, even though anyone with the intellectual capacity slightly higher than a tomato would undoubtably agree with you.

One thing I find interesting is that recent (last few years) scandals involving Republicans usually result in either an immediate resignation, or a resignation after a month or three. With the Democratic scandals, resignations are much rarer - at least that is my impression (I also do a pretty good impression of Elmo).

But we must do things according to proper procedure. We’ll have a proper trial for Tobias Randall, then find him guilty, then hang him! (Or whatever the punishment might be). You skipped the trial - that’s where I believe the problem with your post lies.

  5. Abramahof's pint-sized shadow govt. Says:

I think it’s fair to say that he or she is likely guilty, provided they are proven to be republican. It is not as though there’s a clean record backing them up. Presumption of innocense can only get one so far. Never convicted (as of now), does not mean it will never happen, nor that it is entirely unlikely. I do believe they attempted to rig the courts for this very eventuality. It’s not as if the warriors over ‘there’ are in it to see that corrupt govt officials and associates are further enabled. But, of course, I’m not a lawyer or even particularly happy with the way things have shaken out since the Supreme Court decision of 2000.

  6. Larry Bergan Says:

I would hate to see this scandal take up too much of the time we need to expose and educate the public about the real damage the Republicans have done. This plays into the media’s scheme of trying to convince the American people that we only care about sex scandals, but not deaths of thousands or the looting of the treasury.

Clinton didn’t get convicted and neither will anybody else. It’s just another diversion.

  7. Larry Bergan Says:

On the other hand, Jesus’s biggest complaint was against the hypocrites, and you can’t say HE did have foresight. Whatever it takes to embarrass these guys is what we need.

  8. Caveat Says:

Larry, will Thursday be long enough?, because I understand there’s another scandal tugging at the reins just behind that curtain over there.
