Really, It’s Okay To Hate Larry King

I’ve got to start bringing my own entertainment to the gym on Friday nights. The cardio machines are lined up to watch the TVs; TNT wasn’t interesting, there was poker on several screens and the other choice was Larry King. Seriously, could he just freaking retire already? Watching him blather on and drool over Paris Hilton’s parents as if they aren’t to responsible for their disastrous daughter, and worriedly attempt to emote about Paris’ difficult situation was beyond agonizing.

King at one point may have been a decent journalist and interviewer but that’s long in the past. The man’s a flaming idiot, exemplar of what is most wrong with American journalism - he worships at the altar of celebrity, obsesses over white girls and their problems, and asks trademarked faux insightful questions that are designed to elicit safe, faux enlightening responses. He needs to put out to pasture. (What was it JD said in Heathers - “The football season is over. They have nothing left to offer the school but AIDS jokes and date rape”? I’m sure there’s an analogous line for King - I hope someone comes up with it.)

Of course, we can expect continued coverage because talking about Paris Hilton is easy, mindless and allows journalists to not have to do the actual hard work of covering the disaster that has engulfed the American body politic. Reporting the facts is hard work and apparently the American media prefers not to work very hard at all.

I wouldn’t give you two cents for any of the endless celebrity chatter, however, I hate to admit it, but I’m enjoying the Paris Hilton in prison episode. I feel sorry for her, but she was probably endangering lives by driving drunk. Sometimes it’s too bad we don’t still have horses and buggies or a decent public transportation system in most cities.

Maybe the country can finally have a debate about how countless lives are being destroyed by over-incarceration, unless you have the money or the right connections. If justice becomes more equal, there won’t be such a flippant attitude about putting people in a concrete tomb. I think it’s cruel and unusual myself.

Larry - I have to admit I’m getting more than a little schadenfreude at Paris Hilton’s suffering. She strikes me as a spoiled shrill socialite who really believes the rules don’t apply to her and is shocked at being treated as anyone of us expects to be treated when we repeatedly break the law.

  3. glenn Says:

Paris suffering? She is a DUI loser, that has endangered lives, will not be permitted into Canada, has not been beaten, like so many idiots would be for infractions in the 3rd world, real or otherwise. 45 days for driving drunk AGAIN, while on probation for the original conviction. What could any of us expect in say…Utah?

As for Larry he is the enormously successful middle of the road milque toast, that is ultimately the reflection of mainstream braindead America. Paris is just our poster child.

Really Glendon, hate is such a strong word…and in our culture there is no reason to go take a walk out onto the ice, as long as you are bankable.

  4. Caveat Says:

I think Paris ought to be hounding the paparazzi (another case of corrupt media), and her parents should be sent to ‘gitmo’. The rest is for the easily diverted.

  5. Larry Bergan Says:

Gee, I must have said something that made Judge Glenn angry.

  6. Nephi Says:

Oh, is it Paris Hilton that brought about all the commotion?

I thought with all the crying, screaming and yelling for mommy that some overzealous military recruiter had gotten his hands on a young, republican, bush-supporting chickenhawk for transport to Iraq to fight for our freedom.

  7. Larry Bergan Says:

Whoops, I guess glenn was taking about Larry King, I thought he might be mad at me for saying I felt sorry for Paris. I do feel sorry for anybody who is in prison.

  8. Nephi Says:

Paris is hardly in prison, Larry. She is in the med-ward of an LA county jail. While not making light of the situation - BWAHAHAHAHA - my guess is that, in general, Calif. prisons are a touch worse than LA county jails. But, then again ….

  9. glenn Says:

Larry; If someone beat the pulp out of a loved family member, or worse killed them with malice, would you still feel sorry for them while they wasted in prison? I guess that could make you a supporter of the death penalty. Take the very guilty and end it quickly, so they don’t have to suffer.

If the little idiot Paris had killed someone while driving drunk for the 2nd time, would you feel sorry for the family member that has to live in a prison of grief for the rest of their days? Incarceration is SUPPOSED TO SUCK!! Otherwise why not send felons on Hawaiian vacations?

Will you feel sorry for scooter when he goes to prison? Do you yet feel sorry for Charlie Manson?

and Larry, someone clearly has to judge and take control, we can’t damn well let milque toasts run things, or the bushs’ will overgrow us. At this point, where is Andy Jackson when you need him? We sure are not getting any winning leadership from democrats, or for that matter on site here…and you thought I was referring to you as en, could be you are living up your 15 minutes longer than you should

Settle down! I don’t know much about the Paris Hilton arrest, but if she was indeed driving so intoxicated as to endanger anybody’s life, she should be in jail. I never drive under the influence of alcohol myself or know much about exactly how much drinking would affect someones driving, however, I am steadfastly against any zero tolerance policy for any drug, including prescription drugs.

If you want to jail everybody who’s had a beer and don’t want to jail people using cold medicine, you are a hypocrite. The laws in America have been bastardized by the right wing to cause harm to political enemies to the extent that we should have two categories of felonies. felonies which ARE felonies, and felonies which ARE NOT felonies. I’m speaking of marijuana plants grown for medicinal or even just recreational purposes.

Are you one of those nut cases that are jealous of prison inmates because they don’t have to go to work, or did you believe that senator who said the prison inmates at Gitmo were enjoying life and eating Rice Pilaf and Steamed Vegatables?

  11. glenn Says:

You do not get randomly selected for the most part for DUI. I don’t agree with random stops It usually has to do with FUCKING UP at the wheel. If you do drive drunk, make sure your lights and equipment work, but being a drunk ass fuck up(not you personally Larry), that is pretty unlikely.

It is not illegal to drink beer. It is not illegal to eat cold medicine and drive.

You can however, be arrested for drunk driving under the .08 limit if the officer believes you too impaired. That’s right, if you fail the stupid human tricks, and are under .08, you can still be charged with DUI!! It isn’t hypocritical, it is the law, and only a fool would push it, unless you wish to make an example of yourself to instigate change. You may then become a hero, or a felon…or both.

I don’t write the laws, yet once they exist, they shall be equally meted out, or thrown out, there is no gray area. It pisses people off. The hilton case is proving this out, you get 45 days, half if you are good, so serve ‘em.

You drive drunk in Canada for example, and it is a class A felony, first offense, and if you have a conviction, you will in no way be allowed to enter the country, because you are a proven irresponsible FUCK UP!!, willing to risk the safety of others so you can drive high! You can apply to be considered for “rehabilitation”, and that attempt is 1000 dollars non refundable, no guarantees.

Are you still feeling sorry for the guilty in jail? Save it for the WRONGLY convicted.

If you are growing pot for medical purposes, get a medical license, probably can’t in utah otherwise you risk being a felon, simple. If it means so much, there is always moving to Colorado. The laws exist, the avenues for exception exist, or you run risk, or we change the law…til then..good luck.

  12. Larry Bergan Says:

I don’t disagree with you as much as you might think, but people are being put in prison today, specifically to create jobs and bring government money into municipalities in some states. I will never defend anyone who puts people at unnecessary risk, but there are some important questions that “throw away the key” Americans need to ask about what is really harming our society. Zero tolerance laws are not helping anybody.

The congress persons who penned the laws against Marijuana for a myriad stupid and society killing reasons can CALL someone a felon under their unconstitutional laws, but you can’t change the dictionary definition.

If you want to read a perfect story of someone who was wrongly convicted, read “The Woman Who Wouldn’t Talk” by Susan McDougal. Ken Starr is the one who should be languishing in prison along with about a thousand other greedy, flippant Republican crooks. Paris Hilton is as innocent as a babe in arms compared to this class of thugs who knowingly and willfully put people at risk every day.

  13. glenn Says:

    Ya sure, you betcha, Larry.

We don’t disagree. What is the future of a nation where the goodly portion of the people see incarceration as an economic opportunity?

However, if you run afoul of the reefs in a boat, whose fault is that?

We are fundamentally a criminally based society, where money defines respect. Small wonder those that DISAGREE are driving bomb laden trucks up our ass overseas.

Consider, that since we don’t don’t deal with our empowered institutionalized criminals, it is right to call us a bunch of pussies, or faggots, or some other description that defines those that are content to harp and do nothing really. Me, I own a heavy half ton Chevy that has been parked for a while….

Zero tolerance robs judges of their intellect and in turn, the reason for professionalism and gravitas of their station. Democracy and the rule of Law?…OVER!!

WELCOME TO FASCISM!! My advice, buy heavy weapons, and TRAIN!!

  14. Larry Bergan Says:

Hang in there glenn, I think there is actually a possibility that Rep. Conyers, (with the help of Greg Palast), may be going after big Karl Rove. If that happens, we may actually be able to vote these bastards away like we did in 2000 and every election thereafter.

  15. glenn Says:

As always Larry, the fear of God rests in the interrupted life, where tyranny meets VIOLENCE…,

..and as an armed populace, we need to give the due respect to the armed insurgency of Iraq for being steadfast and fearless in the face of an enemy sent forth in deception and material usurpation.

WE are the backstop. Make sure your brand of chain link is well oiled and WORKS! Support the 2nd amendment, no tyrants will. Those that cannot defend so, shall not be heeded in their comfortable cries of peace.

Why are Americans gun nuts? Consider being hanged by the crown for your disloyalty, and then think of how to prevent this without becoming THEIR ass open bitch.

Guns (and IEDS) work wonders, you see!
