Bravo’s Top Chef – Season three in Miami. Dale got hosed this time around – he should have won the Quick Fire challenge – the judge even admitted he had the hardest of the cocktails to pair and he did so deftly. I have no idea why the judge didn’t choose Dale as the winner.
I want Hung eliminated. He has an attitude problem – every time he loses a challenge or a tasting he says the judge didn’t understand or was confused. Hung is also incredibly disrespectful toward the other contestants and the judges. I take comfort knowing that the last contestant I saw with this attitude was Stephen who was mercifully eliminated. The others? Most of them don’t stand out – which could be good. Sara’s whiny. Tre seems kind of . . . thick; when his food is being evaluated he often has a deer in the headlights look. Howie bothers me but not in a bad way – he’s like your kid brother who won’t ever leave you alone but he’s clearly got some serious cooking chops. Joey is really aggressive toward the other chefs and while he’s obviously a good cook, he seems like he’s out of his league. I wouldn’t be surprised if the final comes down to Brian and CJ – they seem really evenly matched and genuinely gifted chefs. But who knows?
This week’s elimination challenge was brutal – teams of three preparing a trio for a tasting menu – and again I think Dale got hosed but he didn’t do himself any favors. Instead of suggesting a dessert course, he should have fought for a poultry course and then knocked it out of the ballpark which he’s proven he can do (some sort of chicken chicken or turkey – the other teams did scallops, shrimp and beef). But having gone for dessert, he had a teammate who didn’t bother to read the instructions on the box of powdered gelatin and produced a terrible dessert. So he found himself facing elimination when he should have been safe.
AS far as winners, right now, I hate to say it but I’m not betting on Dale. He’s too inconsistent – when he gets it right, he hits a home run, but when he blows it, he really messes it up.

Charlotte – the TV show Top Chef on Bravo. It’s one of those reality shows that’s weirdly addictive.
