Based on my experience in Iraq, this video segment is substantially true. After knowing how much some of these people make, it’s a wonder there’s anyone left in the army. It’s a tribute to those military service members who will work for as much as 5 times less.
This video should have been shown to Congress. If we’re afraid of the truth, it means we’ve dug ourselves a pretty big hole. I can’t imagine why the Republicans wouldn’t want this shown, unless some puppeteer in a high place told them ix-nay on the ideo-vay. In any case, it’s tragic that congress won’t allow the truth to be told.
Two things I never saw in Ramadi (although I wouldn’t be surprised if these things happened in other places): Civilians never got paid to administer our internet cafe, and I was always able to do my own laundry (in Habbaniyah, an Army quartermaster unit did it for us).
But I did speak with base-security types and firefighter types, and they were making at least 3 times as much as I was, and I was doing a much more dangerous job than they were.

Republicans insisted this not be shown? Aren’t they in the minority? These are probably the same GOP congressmen who would have laughed at any request from Democrats a year ago.
