Mitt Romney Flippin Mad
Mitt Romney has backed himself into a corner with his life vs choice , and his political and personal vs Church/religious views.
Problem is, the American people and much less, the breed that will determine his success in the republican primary, do not “do” the subtleties required to “buy” his apologetic logic.
I think the question is still a wide open one; will American elect a Mormon?

I think Romney scored the comedic high point of yesterday’s debate on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” when he said he was tired of “holier-than-thou” critics of his many flip-flops.

If you take the atheist view, that belief in a defined actual God is a manifestation of insanity, or at least wishful delusion, it is obvious that Americans could elect Bozo the Clown for president,… as it is the greater halve that believe in the Christian Messiah and the whole bit with his angry vengeful Dad, and on and on.
Wait…they did that, and it still LIVES!
I can only imagine our cave man ancestors sitting in a smelly cave, teeth falling out, predators eating our young, famine, spoilage, cold, heat, rain, all the complex miseries of being a meat pizza in cheese world. At that point I likely would dream on Mitt Romneys’ God to come and save us. At least the ideas and the rituals would be a diversion from the constant reality of time making hay bales, out of the hay of our lives.
I call dibs on that swinging smoky thing full of incense that they use at the catholic services. Or we could get back to reality learn to bathe, and develop a waste management system. For that spend all your time exercising in the here and now.
Only a Protestant could come up with this, “God helps those that help themselves” and of catholics (which mormons in rigid doctrine resemble) come up with killing them for it. In the long it creates America, not just America, but MASSACHUSETTS, the only place that a nut like romney could be elected guvner. I love history.

Here is Ron Paul telling the unvarnished truth, and romney reacting like a believer that has been told that the plates you can’t look at or you will die, are non-existent or really just Joes’ Moms’ waffle irons.
From the Rep debate.

The wingers are left with the choice of supporting martial law and the continuation of the Bush / Cheney Axis of God-knows-what, the Repub cantidate (Julie-annie, Mitt the twit, and on) or Hil (D, NY). Their lives must suck bigtime.

Cliff,
I think you just wish he was flippin mad. I definitely expected a lot more heated interchange than that. I would be tired of people who don’t know anything about my religion bugging me incessantly about it, too. I mean the question about Jesus coming to Missouri? What does that have to do with anything?
Based on only this interview (I haven’t heard or read him say anything about it anywhere else), his position about abortion is pretty clear. He used to be pro-choice, now he’s not. The church will excommunicate people who participate in wrongful abortions, but they can’t make a law to punish them. People can have pro-choice views, as do Utah Democrat Mormons, but if they violate church policy, they will no longer be members of the church. That’s it. His analogies about sexual infidelity and drinking alcohol were very apropos in their comparison to abortion.
On abortion, sexuality, and drinking, religious views and legal/political views are two entirely different things.
I am still not sure the point of your post.

Frank,
No particular point. For me personally, I hear the “apologetics”. I can’t think of another religion whose doctrine is so hard to explain/defend. Its just too bad. Thats all.
Are you going to the Sunstone Symposium this year? If you’ve never been, its awesome. You’ll find your (good) people there - enlightened, progressive, reverent, and SMART.
