The Day’s Big Political News

Karl Rove is leaving the White House.

This means nothing.  Rove will continue to be on Bush’s speed dial.  Moving him out of the White House means nothing - he will still set policy for this White House - now it just won’t be official.  I’ve long maintained the Rove is the exemplar of a Utah politician - amoral, ruthless, colorless.  The perfect apparatchik.

Since I can’t top what he said, I’ll just quote Kevin Drum at length:

Instant analysis: It doesn’t really matter. History will judge Rove a colossal failure, a man who never understood how to govern and, for all his immense knowledge of polls and politics, never really understood the times he lived in. It was 9/11 that both made and broke the Bush presidency, not some kind of mystical McKinley-esque realignment. Rove was blind to that, and blind to the way Bush should have governed after 9/11. His one-track mind, in which every problem is solved by wielding the biggest, nastiest partisan club you can lift, just couldn’t adapt. It’s fitting that he insisted on making even his final act as calculatedly partisan as he could, announcing his resignation not through the White House press office, but in an interview with the editor of the Wall Street Journal editorial page. Sic transit, Karl.

Sorry in advance for the offensive remark, but … don’t let the door hit you on the way out, Karl, you fucking asshole divisive lying sack of shit!

The words “twisting in the wind” somehow pop into my mind.

  4. Larry Bergan Says:

I did SO want to see Karl frog-marched out of the White House, but, Oh well.

    Here you go…

    Larry, Richard, that’s perfect, lol.

I wish that was a real picture Richard, but it’s nice anyway, isn’t it?

I’m sure Glendon is right. Rove isn’t going anywhere as far as setting policies. If things were to actually get less sinister in the White House, that would give the people the feeling they had won something, and they can’t let that happen.

Or as Bush would say, “that’s just not my style.”

As soon as the reps figure out who to run, rove will be back, in fact, I doubt he even moves his offices. No need. If the dems run hillary…it’s going to be a no move term again for rove.
