Go in Peace, Good Friend
Author Madeleine L’Engle died last week - I read about it but couldn’t bring myself to blog about it.
From her obit.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be made to Crosswicks Foundation, Ltd, 924 West End Ave, apt 95, New York, New York, 10025. This is just an option, and we encourage you to honor her memory in any way you choose.
A Wrinkle in Time was on the first real books I read myself. According to the ALA, it is number 22 in the list of banned books.

I read that book, an interview with her was on CBC, which I get where I am living. Cool lady, said she wrote books to be read, not specific to an age group. She wrote many books, but did have a 1o year period where nothing was produced. Made me think, if you have something in you to write, keep plugging away.

Glenn - she was amazing person. In one of her books, she talked about what a gift it was to share her apartment with her granddaughters (for a while) and then what a gift it was when they moved out on their own. I really admire her ability to see the changes of life without drama and trauma, without dismissing or ignoring the richness of life.

Interesting, that is something much of America lacks in its perspective as people race towards money, and the inevitable, in my opinion. I sometimes see Americans as a people that unwisely believe they will live forever, often not realizing what stage of life they are really in.
As a person raised by Europeans, the clarity with which they see their short lives, and the priorities at each stage, preclude overworking, dreaming of material goods…, better a long vacation, or a month at the spa, than a fancy car, but you can have that, if you wish. People take time to know their people, and families, as priority.
Sadly the American business model has corrupted their societies as well, and the attitudes change, in the name of profit and competitiveness. Still, they are doing it. Sanity to a large degree, non profit health care, sane work weeks, holidays, schools where talent is encouraged, and outcome based education is frowned upon. Excellence still exists, all in a public forum.
I don’t know where we are headed as a people, left or right, it isn’t making sense to me anymore. Ready to go through the Wrinkle.
