Cheney Impeachment Vote Possible?

Raw Story reports that Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) says he is “seriously thinking about calling a privileged resolution on impeachment of the vice president and forcing a vote on the floor of the House.” A member submitting a privileged resolution proposing impeachment is entitled to recognition for one hour in which to debate it. Unless the Speaker of the House agrees to hold a vote, the measure then is referred to the Judiciary Committee.

“I’ve always said that impeachment is off the table,” Speaker Nancy Pelosi maintained in an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on Tuesday.

Last April, Rep. Kucinich introduced House Resolution 333, Impeaching Richard B. Cheney, Vice President of the United States, for high crimes and misdemeanors. In July, a poll by the American Research Group found that Americans backed a Cheney impeachment by a 54 percent majority.

The basis for impeachment, according to Rep. Kucinich, is violations of the U.N. Charter and the “right of the American people to have a government that is honest and peaceful.”

It became obvious to me that this vice president, who was a driving force for taking the United States into a war against Iraq under false pretenses, is once again rattling the sabers of war against Iran with the same intent to drive America into another war, again based on false pretenses.

…The United States is signatory to the U.N. Charter, a treaty among the nations of the world. Article II, Section 4 of the United Nations Charter states, and I quote, “All members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, or in any manner inconsistent with the purposes of the United Nations.”

In September 2004, then UN Secretary General Kofi Annan stated that the unilateral invasion of Iraq by the United States and its allies was an illegal act that contravened the UN charter.

    Congressman Matheson–

    You still don’t have an “impeachment” category on your website, so I’m calling this “crime.” Rep. Dennis Kucinich plans to bring a privileged resolution for impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney to the House floor. As my representative, I expect you to endorse impeachment and vote for it. The Kucinich resolution introduced last April accuses VP Cheney of violating the UN Charter by unilateral use of military force against Iraq and threats of force against Iran. The case is a slam-dunk, to coin a phrase. I look forward to hearing you argue strongly for impeachment during the floor debate.

    Kucinich is being ignored as if he doesn’t exist. All of the other “democrats” are standing there with him and treating him with utter disrespect, (did somebody say something?) This week the damned media covered a debate with the democrats and the issue was about the war in Iraq. The coverage focused on how Edwards said he was sorry for his vote and how Richardson was calling for pulling out. There was Kucinich standing right there as the guy who VOTED AGAINST THE WAR FROM THE START and he isn’t even brought up in the discussion. The invisible candidate. He really ought to wear stilts to the next debate and see if they can ignore him then!
