Warrantless wiretapping in place before 9/11
Can we impeach the fucker now?
h/t Think Progress “
Washington Post publishes additional details about the Bush administration’s warrantless wiretapping, noting that the National Security Agency approached Qwest “more than six months before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.†But the Body Politik’s Igor Volsky points out that President Bush has claimed that the program was put in place in response to 9/11:”
After September the 11th, I vowed to the American people that our government would do everything within the law to protect them against another terrorist attack. As part of this effort, I authorized the National Security Agency to intercept the international communications of people with known links to al Qaeda and related terrorist organizations. [5/11/06]
Kagro X adds, “If Qwest’s competitors were already abetting this bloodless(?) coup before 9/11, then the ‘administration’s’ domestic spying not only has little if anything to do with response to terrorism, but it also objectively failed to prevent 9/11.â€

Up is down!
Get over it, you libs!
(I hate sarcasm because of it’s sarcasm, but in this case, I succumb, willingly!)
Impeach for justice and redemption for Utah in particular!
Come on Utah, show the world that you won’t be used by these fascist con men. I’m counting on you! There is an anti-war rally happening in Salt Lake City on October the 27th. Find out about it and TAKE ACTION, (just get out in the streets and stand there or walk.) The media is going to make it look like both sides were represented just like they did the last time Bush came to Salt Lake, but it will be a lie, (WE KICKED THEIR ASSES!)
Over 5000 showed up to protest Bush. Under 400 showed up to support him even though every Republican luminary gave a speech there! This is the truth and I can prove it! I have pictures of both events!
We can’t possibly prove that up is up, but we can show the people of Utah that there is a big movement against America’s complicity in torture and war!

Good luck with that.
I’m sure that in the logic is in order to make and omlette, you have to break a few eggs.
So where was congressional oversight? Who was in charge of the loyal opposition?
If bush is the conscienceless croc, where is Steve Irwin? Oh yeah that, same place the dems are.

Is Naomi Wolf an alarmist? A fifth column terrorist spreading lies about our “dear leader” and his administration?
I laugh when she says people ask her “what should we do”? Read some Revolutionary history, and perhaps open the Constitution, the pamphlet is what, 35 little pages?

I recommend reading chapter 2 of James Risen’s book State of War. This got started because the NSA, which has tapped phone lines worldwide for many years, realized that a lot of foreign-to-foreign telecommunications were routed through the USA and it would be easier and cheaper to tap in here.
One thing led to another, and now the Bush administration has carte blanche for electronic surveillance of anyone, anywhere. Too bad they haven’t caught any terrorists this way, but think of the political advantages! Republicans ought to worry about when a Democratic president can do this.

Let’s be honest with ourselves, the illusion that these civil liberties are really for us, and protect us, and that we only now know that they are that illusion, has been going on for forever.
They(liberties) have been the night-light in our nation to ease the fear of the boogeyman.
When will we grow up? You have to wake up first.
