Let’s Make This a Becker Burg

Apparently alliteration amuses me.

So, via ralphecker.com, I see that Becker supporters raised over $50,000 in seven hours!  That’s amazing to me.  The money quote:

Former State Senator Karen Hale, who participated in the event, said, “I think this shows how passionate Ralph’s supporters are. You can’t manufacture that kind of enthusiasm for a candidate. Because Ralph is a genuine person with an inspirational vision for the city, asking my friends and family to support him was easy.”

I’ll be knocking doors for Ralph tonight - I think we’ll be in Sugarhouse.  As opposed to the last couple times I’ve gone, I’m hoping tonight it isn’t cold, raining or snowing.

Dave Buhler has slogans (am I the only one who started laughing and thinking of the cartoon character in response to Dave’s billboard that read “Underdog versus Blueprint Man”?).  Ralph has ideas.

Salt Lake City deserves and needs a mayor of Ralphs integrity.  His 180 Day Plan is a great outline for action in the city - it covers 5E’s -

  • Education
  • Environment
  • Equality
  • Engaging the Community
  • Excitement

I believe we need an activist government.  Corporations and the wealthy do not need anyone to advocate for them - they hire that done.  The rest of us, however, need our government to advocate for us, to protect our rights.  Government can and should serve for the rest of us as a way to pool our resources and make our collective lives better.  The Paris Hilton’s of the world don’t need the government to help them pay for and education or provide job training.  The rest of us do and the government is the means by which we can pool our resources for our common good.
