Actually, Ralph’s style makes it even worse (at least for some)
With all due respect to Steve at UA, it is the very real possibility that Ralph Becker’s low key style, his ability to create consensus and to convince people of his positions that scares the bloody bejesus out of Rocky hating conservatives. Rocky was easy - he was a controversial lightning rod person who was always in the news. Ralph, by contrast, is almost impossible to dislike.Â
Ralph Becker’s style will probably do just what Steve says:
I think when Ralph advocates domestic partner rights, he will actually have a pretty good chance of persuading people outside of his core constituency that it’s the right thing to do.
Cultural conservatives, even in deep dark red Utah, feel besieged by the tidal forces of “liberalism” (which isn’t really what they think but that’s another issue), someone like Ralph Becker who can and very likely will change people’s minds scares the holy hannah out of conservatives.
