Don’t cheer on the elliptical

So last night I’m at the gym, using the elliptical trainer, watching the news.  Obama’s speech - well, how can I put this . . . I know.

My god he’s good.  I mean transcendent.  I mean jawdropping.  I mean “Holy freaking sweet mother that man has a gift.”

When he got to his line about “a King led us to the top of the mountain and showed us a new promised land” I cheered.  Then I was chanting “Yes, we can,” along with Obama and the crowd.

Everyone was staring at me.  I nearly fell off the machine.  Don’t cheer on the elliptical.

Hillary’s speech surprised me.  She’s good but . . .  Her style - crisp, matter of fact, rational didn’t compare well to Obama.  Obama’s speech was all about hope, about the future, about change.  “Yes we can.”  Hillary’s covered many of the same themes but at heart she’s an efficient, thoughtful, technocrat and the difference showed.

Edwards of course, is always amazing.  I can see how that man made millions as a trial lawyer.  It’s a bad year to be a Southerner in the Democratic party.  But he’s good.

Edwards would probably do better to make his speeches a little less depressing. By the time he gets around to his point of him being the one to fix all the problems, a lot of people have tuned out and crawled into a black hole because this world is so horrible. I wish he’d change that. Even though I’m for Obama, I really like Edwards.

The chanting has gotten out of hand. McCain’s supporters yelled, “Mac is back!” Huckabee’s people chanted, “Huck-a-bee!” Poor Romney couldn’t get a cheer going. Obama was “Yes, we can!” I was waiting for somebody to lead a chorus of “So say we all!”

I’m still stuck on Dean’s “You Have The Power!” Always living in the past.

Sen. Obama is inspirational. But could he, with no telepromter, have a wide ranging 90 minute Q&A on policy issues like Sen. Clinton. He needs a little blueprint man in him to be the total package.
