Great Moments in Presidential Debates: Easter Bunny Hid Iraq WMD
Sometimes reality gets so far ahead of satire, it’s impossible to catch up. In last night’s Florida GOP debate, Mike Huckabee compared Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction to an Easter egg hunt: “Everybody can look back and say, oh well we didn’t find the weapons. Doesn’t meet that they weren’t there. Just because you didn’t find every Easter egg didn’t mean it wasn’t planted.”
In a post-debate interview with Chris Matthews, Huckabee suggested that Saddam’s WMD may be located in Jordan. Last May, fellow presidential candidate Willard (Mitt) Romney suggested Syria as the site of the missing weapons.
On CBS “60 Minutes” this Sunday, Saddam’s FBI interrogator explains that the Iraqi dictator was deliberately bluffing about weapons of mass destruction because he was worried about Iran. He never guessed that his nonexistent WMD could provide a pretext for a U.S. invasion.

Unfortunately, reality is nowhere proximate to much of our ill informed electorate either. While the Bush admin practiced the big lie, oft repeated, the easter bunny was busy behind the scenes, promoting arms and voting machine sales. The media was and is stillo busy selecting the appropriate cantidates for another close election, are providing all the information a voter needs to make that call, and if it begins to look squirelly to the PTB, there’s always the fall-back cheat.
Meanwhile in Iraq
” ” Pakistan
” ” Afghanistan
” ” Lebanon and Palistine and Darfur and other places far and near, large and small, We the People are just aching for a bullet, a bomb, a wall to separate us, more caskets, and above all, more reaming by the neocon manipulators in the name of democracy. Ha!
I do not believe Saddams’ bluff fooled the weapons inspectors. But there was a great deal at risk to our economy if we didn’t pull an enemy out of a hat somehow. Enrons’ crimes were about to pull the whole admin into the shitter. Too bad it did not.
