Who Could Vote for McCain Now?
On Sunday, speaking to supporters in Polk City, Florida, Senator John McCain all but promised to go to war with Iran if elected President. Huffington Post has the video.

MSNBC commentator Pat Buchanan also thinks McCain is determined to take this country into another war, in addition to the two we are currently losing in Iraq and Afghanistan. At the last GOP convention, when the street theater group Billionaires for Bush chanted “FOUR MORE WARS,” that was intended to be satirical. When McCain picks up the slogan it’s not so funny anymore.
“I gotta give you some straight talk, my friends. It’s a tough war we’re in. It’s not gonna to be over right away. There’s gonna be other wars. I’m sorry to tell you, there’s gonna be other wars. We will never surrender but there will be other wars.”
“And right now–we’re gonna have a lot of PTSD to treat, my friends. We’re gonna have a lot of combat wounds that have to do with these terrible explosive IEDs that inflict such severe wounds. And my friends, it’s gonna be tough, we’re gonna have a lot to do.”

I predicted the end of McCain’s Presidential ambitions last April, when he staged a major military operation in order to visit an allegedly peaceful Baghdad market. Then he followed that up by singing the chorus of “Bomb Iran.” Then McCain managed to refrain from going insane in front of the cameras until earlier this month, when he told us about his plan to occupy Iraq for 100 years. At least that comment seemed to show he’s learned that it’s a lot easier to get the United States into a war than to get us out of one. This latest comment just sounds like he’s left reality far behind in a cloud of wingnuttery.
Iran does not have a nuclear weapons program and poses no threat to our national security. An attack on Iran, like the invasion of Iraq, would be a blatant violation of international law and treaties. A large majority of Americans are opposed to military action against Iran.
None of this seems like it’s going to prevent John McCain from winning a plurality in today’s winner-take-all Florida primary.
UPDATE: The exit polls from the GOP Florida Primary– McCain 34.3%, Romney 32.6%, Rudy 15.3% and Huck 12%.
UPDATE: Tonight just after 7:15 Utah time, MSNBC called Florida for McCain. McCain gets all 57 delegates, plus momentum going into Super Tuesday. Third-place finisher Rudy Giuliani is expected to drop out and endorse McCain.
UPDATE: MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough sarcastically summed up McCain’s platform as “less jobs and more wars.”
BUCHANAN: Here’s a guy, basically, what does he say? The jobs are never coming back, the illegals are never going home, but we’re gonna have a lot more wars.
SCARBOROUGH: We’re gonna start a lot of wars! He has promised, for the record Keith, John McCain’s platform — and it certainly looks inviting for the fall — he has promised less jobs and more wars. Now that’s something we can all rally behind.

McCain is INSANE!

Yeah, and what is really crazy is that he will beat obama.
Who would have voted for bush the 2nd time?
By and large, America is insane.
McCain wins in Florida, mainly due to the Hispanic vote. Hey, they voted for bush too, the machismo has its appeal. I guess.
Think the majority of people in their 9 to 5 know what McCain is? They’re pretty crazy too, pensions flagging, no benefits, or declining ones, as well as declining wages through stagflation. Yeah crazy or ready to fleeced…again Charlie Brown.
So most Americans oppose the war, that’s why it’s still going on. It’s not like bush did it all by himself. Knowing this, they will vote McCain, as all obama will is raise their taxes.

Since Democrats had nothing at stake in Florida a lot of them voted in the Republican primary for McCain. I agree with you Cliff, which you know pains me, but I can’t believe Republicans are going for him. They say an elephant never forgets but for some reason a lot of Republicans have forgotten how many times McCain has screwed the party over. If McCain wins the nomination it will be the first time I have ever not been able to support the Republican nominee. Now if it comes down to McCain and Hillary I guess I’ll have to hold my nose and vote for McCain but it will still be two bad choices. If McCain wins he is going to find it hard dealing with and face a stiff opposition from his own party which is why I believe a President McCain will almost always gravitate towards the Democrat side on issues. Apparently the RINOs have taken over the Republican party and it is destroying it.
By staying in the race Mike Huckabee is showing that his only interest in running is to keep a Mormon out of the White House. He is a man that carries his hatred and bigotry on his sleeve. I think he will stay in the race just to be a spoiler against Romney.

Yep, Ken. Its a real progressive revolution. Your kids got lucky.

I predict that if McCain does win the delegates to be nominated that the party will suffer a severe case of buyers remorse long before the GOP convention.

Support the troops - Impeach McCain!

What you are seeing Ken is Republican Buyer’s Remorse for Bush. You see, Bush — being the worse fuckup in the history of America — has virtually ended any chance for ANY REPUBLICAN to win in November.
And the neocons in congress who can’t let go, have pulled the panties down around the ankles of the GOP.
As a result, you are left with a bunch of GOP candidates whose megalomania precludes normal brain function.
And, in case you hadn’t noticed, Mitt Romney is the biggest megalomaniac of them all - handsome, rich, and righteous.
But Mitt is no genius. He’s certainly made the best of the silver spoon, but let me assure you, making money does not equal intelligence. That is Mitts greatest self-deception.
SO what about Huckabee? ego-maniacal self-delusion.
And McCain? INSANE. His brain is broken. You can hear it in his speech.
Lastly, Ron Paul. What can I say? Ron Paul appeals not uninformed (and uneducated) , cynical, redneck America. The cold dirty bathwater of our nation.
I do hope Flip Mitt Flopper Romney DOES get the nomination so he can be pounded into the sand in the general. (Jesus H Christ, the guy can only raise $1m in Utah. Wake UP!)
Prepare yourself for the largest landslide for democrats in all races ever i the history of the nation. We might even decide to force people who voted for Bush to wear a swastika in public as a lesson to our children to spend less time in church and get a good education.

[...] am so pleased with my response to Ken on McCain, I thought I would top post it if only to shake things up around [...]

Ah Cliff, I know you can’t help yourself…, that the impotence of progressives to have been unable to put even a dent in the bumper of bushs’ monster truck, is unhinging you.
The sad reality that bush has been entirely empowered by democrats in his madness, only makes regular Americans look upon the democratic leadership and say…no way. It’s a big Country, and when push comes to shove, even I wouldn’t vote for obama, his ties to the brezinski cabal are shocking and frightning.
When it comes down to it mccain vs obama…no difference. mccain vs. hilary…slight difference. I’ll vote for hilary given the history of hucksters and war mongers leading our nation.
In an irony Cliff you resemble mccain in your rantings as a “true believer”, just from the other extreme.
Let’s do the analysis. Ron Paul would end the war, and change our foreign policy, balance our budget, force the federal government into its Constitutional restraints, based upon the document itself. Here we have a medical Dr. with a history of a successful career, and a man that has served in Congress longer than most obama supporters have been alive. To wit the entire time he has voted for and advocated balanced budgets and rational fiscal policies. obama, who knows? Really who cares? Unelectable. You need to wake up.
Meanwhile, obama has talked of bombing Iran, and next Pakistan. His foreign policy mentors are zbignew brezinski, his psycho son mark, and kissinger. The lamb led to slaughter, or a simple case of obama being the right vehicle. Then there is the reality that obama will likely raise taxes, and surely not on the wealthy. He likely wants to live. That means more burdens for average Americans.
Paul would begin the drawing down of the 700 military bases we have spread all over the world. Yes, he has a dream, obomber? Not so much. Same shit, different toilet.
Your last paragraph has once again revealed your true nature. That of a Fascist. I guess you might be using democrat sanctioned torture to find out who voted for bush? Guess you might be of the mind to restrict the speech and thoughts of those that do not fit in to your view of the political agenda. In that regard, it is always good to remember that nazis were sold at first as socialist “progressives”.
Dude, you are losin’ it. Watch how the thing plays out, and remember 3 facts.
1) The electoral college decides the Presidency.
2) Those that cast the votes mean nothing, those who count the votes mean everything.
3) Time will tell.
