Casey Knowles Versus the Politics of Fear
It may have been the ugliest part of the presidential campaign so far. Just before the Texas primary, Hillary Clinton’s campaign ran a fearful TV ad. The message: our loved ones are in grave danger and only Clinton can save them. Like similar Republican appeals to fear, it worked. Texans who voted early went overwhelmingly for Obama; those who made up their minds during the three days after the ad was broadcast voted heavily for Clinton.
If you follow the blogs, you may know Casey Knowles as one of the sleeping kids in the old stock footage used to make Hillary’s red phone ad. Now, she’s old enough to vote and it turns out she is a precinct captain for Barack Obama.
Today, Casey has her own campaign ad up on YouTube that criticizes Hillary’s horror movie. Referring to the shadowy images in the red phone ad, she says: “That little girl was me… And I’m here to tell you that I’m not scared. I reject the politics of fear that Senator Clinton uses to scare up votes.”
And the kicker: “I’m Casey Knowles. I approved this message. And not the other one.”
