Obama Uber Alles?

Monday, July 28th, 2008

I can’t think of a good title for this post that doesn’t include profane references to body parts. Please submit your ideas below.
Update: The winning entry submitted by Richard Warnick.

Summary: On Glenn Beck, Ben Stein, while discussing Sen. Barack Obama’s plan to deliver his speech accepting the Democratic presidential nomination at Denver’s Invesco [...]

The Problem of the Low Information Voter

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

The US has one of the lowest voter participation rates in the world. In 2004. nearly half the eligible voters stayed at home rather than voting. That’s a bad thing. However, and I suspect there is a connection, a large portion of eligible voters are politely called “low information voters.” These [...]

Proof OneUtah is Fair and Balanced

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

Mike Pence carried the water for the Bush administration in this hearing. Early on he quotes the Constitution on impeachment and concludes, “no one has accused the president of treason.”
He’s wrong. I do accuse this president of treason because he has admitted treason through words and actions. He should hang.

McCain’s Fudge Haus

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

Via Talking Points Memo and Think Progress: Yesterday, Senator McCain told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that Maliki’s 16-month timetable for withdrawal from Iraq is a “pretty good timetable.” He only adds that “they have to be based on conditions on the ground.”
In other words, Barack Obama’s 16-month timetable is a catastrophe but Maliki’s is “pretty good”. [...]

Rocky’s Opening Statement House Judiciary Hearing on Presidential Powers

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

Rocky was great also in subsequent testimony. This session lasted SIX HOURS!
Here are more segments of the hearing.
The last hour of the hearing was the most compelling argument for why we MUST impeach Bush to save the Constitution…literally.

In praise (or not) of the Speedo

Friday, July 25th, 2008

H/t to Terrance at his Republic for this article.
Who would’ve thought that a tiny contraption that fits snugly around a man’s jewels could become the subject of such intense debate? I receive e-mail on a virtual daily basis regarding how cool or appalling people think Speedos are. So which side of the Speedo spectrum is [...]

The Skunk at the Garden Party

Friday, July 25th, 2008

The University of Utah just announced a new program in nuclear energy. This new program was driven by a 1.5 million dollar donation for the creation of a chair in nuclear energy given by EnergySolutions.
EnergySolutions continues its attempts to break into the ranks of Utah’s leading institutions even though they make their money by [...]

“Show respect while she’s speaking”

Friday, July 25th, 2008

Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell is an absurd, counter productive policy. At Pam’s House Blend, she’s got some fun video of Elaine Donnelly doing her whackadoodle best to argue in favor of the policy. Donnelly raises the “unit cohesion” argument again and again and Rep. Patrick Murphy smacks it down -asking in essence, “Are [...]

Witness List for Tomorrow’s Impeachment Hearing

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Thanks, Raw Story. The House Judiciary Committee has released a witness list for its hearing on the impeachment of President George W. Bush.
Late Thursday afternoon, the committee released the full witness list, broken down into two panels.
Panel One
The Honorable Dennis Kucinich, Representative from Ohio

ACLU Obtains CIA Torture Memos

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

We don’t actually need any more evidence of Bush administration crimes, but today the American Civil Liberties Union released more anyway. Previously top secret memos obtained by the ACLU reveal more of the bizarre, perverse and disingenuous legal theories that Justice Department lawyers tried to use to justify torture of detainees. From Raw [...]

Are There Non-Egregious Bush Crimes?

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Everyone except a few bloggers has probably forgotten, if they ever knew, that last April Barack Obama made a half-hearted pledge to prosecute at least some of the crimes committed by the Bush administration. In response to a question from a DailyKos blogger, he answered carefully:
What I would want to [...]

The Beehive State Balancing Act

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

When Cliff Lyon learned that I was the new editor of BlogNetNews/Utah he asked if I would not list OneUtah as a liberal blog since the goal here is to present a full range of Utah perspectives. He also invited me to be an author on One Utah to help balance out the currently liberal [...]
