Best Line of The Week

So, the back story goes something like this: Old, white haired Catholic guy in Great Britain issues stupid statement attributing a host of things to demonic possession - which he deems contagious.

Promiscuity, as well as homosexuality and pornography, says 73 year-old Fr. Jeremy Davies, is a form of sexual perversion and can lead to demonic possession. Offering what may be an explanation for the explosion of homosexuality in recent years, Fr. Davies said, “Among the causes of homosexuality is a contagious demonic factor.”

Fr. Davies continues: “Even heterosexual promiscuity is a perversion; and intercourse, which belongs in the sanctuary of married love, can become a pathway not only for disease but also for evil spirits.”

. . . . He also said that Satan is responsible for having blinded most secular humanists to the “dehumanising effects of contraception and abortion and IVF, of homosexual ‘marriages’, of human cloning and the vivisection of human embryos in scientific research.” Extreme secular humanism, “atheist scientism”, is comparable to “rational satanism” and these are leading Europe into a dangerous state of apostasy. “Only by a genuine personal decision for Christ and the Church can someone separate himself from it.”

Fr. Davies’ (an Oxford graduate who is also a qualified physician) comments come in conjunction with the publication of his new book, entitled, “Exorcism: Understanding Exorcism in Scripture and Practice” published earlier this year by the Catholic Truth Society (CTS).

In the Catholic Church, exorcisms can only be performed by a priest who has the “express” permission of his bishop.

I think Ed Brayton summed it up best when he wrote:

That’s good advice. And never use an unlicensed ghostbuster either.

However, the best line of the week belongs to Raging Bee responding to Ed’s post:

And never use an unlicensed ghostbuster either.

Yeah, if two unlicenced ghostbusters crossed their streams in a crowded hotel, it might cause an explosion of homosexuality.

It would be bad.

PZ Myers responded to this article by asking “What year is it, anyway?” He also observed that if the usual treatments of leaches and prayer don’t work, you can choose the:

always the 100% successful traditional treatment: tie them to a stick and set them on fire.

Sounds as if Fr. Davies may know whereof he speaks. Perhaps the self-flagellation sessions aren’t doing the trick. Or maybe they are.

It does make one wonder doesn’t it?

‘Contagious demonic factor’ sounds eerily familiar. I wonder if it’s akin to ‘Bush derangement syndrome’?

I also wish to add that I do not take the GOP’s view of BDS, but rather see the malady as that which has infected the 21% of the population who still lean in support of the little tyrant.

For all their faults, I’m glad my parents weren’t exorcists.
