John Amato interviews Naomi Klein about the next Shock Doctrine: ‘The Wall Street Bailout Giveaway’

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

This is the best conversation about what is happening right now with the economic crises and the ‘bailout’.

The ‘Bailout’ must be stopped and this is why.

Sarah Palin Naked

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Subtitle: My Deepest Personal Feelings - I Hate You.
I stumbled upon this article and re-print it here. It is essentially one that I have been writing in my head for years. This one was published 2 weeks ago after Charlie Gibson, Palin interview.

Financial Meltdown Discussion

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

I spent whatever free time I have had today sifting through the coverage of the financial mess. Despite the way the Masters of the Universe are running around with their hair on fire (or maybe because of it), most Americans seem to be regarding the situation with a somewhat cold eye.
Public opposition to the [...]

Sunset Sandstone Red: Utah is John McCain’s Safest State in 2008

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Sean Quinn writing on the excellent election site FiveThirtyEight.com:

SUNSET SANDSTONE RED, Utah projects as John McCain’s safest state in 2008. It was the number one Bush margin state in 2004, and set the baseline for the most conservative state in the Likert scale. 57 percent of voters identified as Republicans in 2004 (the most) and [...]

OMH! The Pig Farts Yet Again!

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Sarah comes up with another zinger.
Specifically, “[a]fter noting Roe vs. Wade, Palin was apparently unable to discuss any major court cases.“

If this is true, and we will find out soon enough, I fully expect our 1U colleagues such as Paul Mero, Bob S., jdberger, Ken Bingham and RO to finally concede what is painfully obvious: [...]

Are you better off than you were eight years ago?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

It’s been an awful eight years. As Bush presided over the biggest loss of jobs since Herbert Hoover, the right-wingers told us never mind, the markets are doing fine. As the gap between rich and poor widened, they said it’s OK, the wealth will trickle down.
Via Think Progress, here’s Bushonomics in a nutshell. [...]

Deer Meet Headlights

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I’ve been trying to get a handle on today’s events. Based on what I’m reading, I think most people are a bit in shock.
Here’s what happened:
The bailout failed to pass the House.
The Dow crashed 777.68 points.
I don’t think anyone really has any idea what to do now.
House Republicans had a crazy ass plan (TM) [...]

Speaker Pelosi’s ‘Partisan’ Speech ‘Poisoned’ the Bailout?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

What the Democrats should have done: Told President Bush to wait until after Election Day, and then taken the time to write progressive legislation aimed not at bailing out Wall Street billionaires, but at restoring the financial regulatory system that the Republicans wrecked, and helping out their victims.
What the Democrats did: Went along with demands [...]

Wall Street: “Give us our bailout or the Economy Gets it!”

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Initially, the Dow dropped 700 points - as I’m writing now it’s down about 550 points.
How did Utah’s house members vote?
Cannon voted yes.
Bishop and Matheson voted no.
The consensus seems to be: something has to be done. Just not this particular bailout.

Muslim Children Gassed at Dayton Mosque After “Obsession” DVD Hits Ohio

Monday, September 29th, 2008

From fifty-thousand feet all the way down to pebbles on the beach, the distribution of this anti-Muslim DVD on behalf of the Republican candidate for President evokes the Nazi rise to power.

Sarah Palin, The New Face of Feminism

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I visited my friend Ken’s site Oblogatory Anecdotes last night to get a jump on the right-wing talking points for the week ahead and discovered this.

What I found instead was Ken’s valiant contribution to the talking points on the Palin pick, at the end of August. Ken is back in school and won’t be [...]

Carl Bernstein: The Palin Pick — The Devolution of McCain

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

For the posterity of this blogs legacy, I reprint this article in full from Huffington Post
This is one of the most honest reflections on what has happened to McCain. About how McCain went from someone a Democrat could vote for, to a sell-out to the right-wing.
