Do the Patriotic Thing: Blow your Brains Out

According to London’s Daily Telegraph, the architects of the Palin Doctrine are a group of people who have been singularly wrong about virtually everything in the last decade — the neocons, who have been briefing Palin for weeks.

As predicted, the fact that she didn’t know anything wasn’t a bug, it was a feature. She’s perfect for the neocons: likable on the outside, a blank slate on the inside. To borrow from an old cliché, if Sarah Palin didn’t exist, the neocons would have had to invent her.

How else do you imagine a quote from an avowed racist writer Westbrook Pegler ended up in her acceptance speech, “We grow good people in our small towns, with honesty and sincerity and dignity.”

“Pegler was a rabid Joe McCarthyite” and wrote for the John Birch Society.

Surely Palin knows NO MORE about Pegler than she does about the Bush doctrine. But the people around her do, and they will be shaping a Palin presidency. That they would inject not just Pegler’s words but spirit into their candidate’s speech shows where they’re coming from. Rick Davis, the McCain campaign manager, said that the Palin-sparked convention created “a whole new Republican Party,” but what it actually did was exhume an old one from its crypt.

The specifics have changed in our new century, but the vitriolic animus of right-wing populism preached by Pegler and McCarthy and revived by the 1990s culture wars remains the same. The game is always to pit the good, patriotic real Americans against those subversive, probably gay “cosmopolitan” urbanites (as the sometime cross-dresser Rudy Giuliani has it) who threaten to take away everything that small-town folk hold dear.

Idiocy in America was once measured by how many people voted for Bush the second time. Now we have another litmus test, people who think Palin was picked for anything reason other than her Machiavellian willingness to take orders from the fascists lobbyist running McCain’s campaign.

Any American who really believes Palin could, should or would run this country, needs to do the patriotic thing; go straight from Church to some place quiet and blow their brains out with your ‘piece’.

One think that the Palin debacle makes clear is: in the mind of neocon operatives behind the McSame campaign, any Tom, Dick or Harry, or Jane, Sally or Sarah, with half a brain can be president of the country.

  2. Richard Warnick Says:

Not a pretty image, Cliff. Anyway, the proper sentence for a Palin supporter would be to watch her become President and succeed Bush as the new Worst President Ever. Let the punishment fit the crime.

What’s worse? Not knowing what the Bush Doctrine is, or knowingly supporting it?

  3. Larry Bergan Says:

Palin will have a “shadow” Vice President and I’m sure we all know who that is: a dick who uses evangelical Christians, born again Christians, and Mormons for toilet paper; the constitution has already been depleted.

  4. Larry Bergan Says:

I just had a terrifying thought. They’re going to say Mormons voted for a holy roller in higher numbers then any other state.

Lar, try Unthinking the Thinkable. Did you see Ed Firmage Jr’s LTE in the Trib Saturday? Nicely covers that very ground.

  6. Larry Bergan Says:

    Cav:

Can you link me to the article before it disappears. The Tribune likes to profit from it’s articles after a while. The Joe Cannon news provides a link to some stuff for a while, intermittently.

Input from above “sources”, (or Mormons), welcomed.

Palin even has the Dick Cheney smirk:

Plus, she has learned when it comes to investigations - criminal or otherwise - just politicize the matter and claim you are not going to cooperate.

This has really gotta be tough on jd and Bob, seeing their moose-slaughtering savior get slaughtered (slowly) herself. My guess is she will retreat to a nice cozy insanisilum come mid November.

Here’s a little cheat sheet you can use when trying to forget why people call you dumb asses for supporting Sarah Palin for President Vice President.

    JD,

Question: What does it say about this site when one “side” wants to discuss the issues, the policies, etc and the other “side” has name calling, false fact filled “bingo card” and photoshopped pictures?

Answer: McCain / Palin win the election :)

  12. Cliff Lyon Says:

    JD,

Question: What does it say when one side wants to validate their faith in George Bush and the now failed Conservative movement by hounding us with tired talking points out of denial and in the hope that they won’t have to face reality that they have been complicit in the near destruction of the Country, and the other ’side’ were right all along and have generously tried, unsuccessfully, to help them understand why and how they got suckered by Bush Republicans?

Thank you for your considerate response.

  13. Albert O. Says:

    Bob:

I’m calling you out, dumb ass. Which of the entries in the bingo card are false, as you claim? There are 25 entries, total. Let’s see if you can identify 5 of them that are false.

Good luck. The clock starts, now.

  14. Albert O. Says:

    Bob:

And while you are working on your bingo-card assignment, here is some insight from your conservative brethren who, still, seem puzzled at McSame’s choice for a running mate.

But not is all lost, Bobby. As the Readers Digests of old counseled: laughter is the best medicine. I’d find something funniny, if you can, and start laughing.

  15. Albert O. Says:

INSIGHT for Bob & jd who, as of today, are confirmed dumb asses for continuing to defend W and his policies, which McSame intends to continue.

  16. Oprahs' Orifice Says:

It is a total panic in liberaland these days. It is just too bad that the democrat party just ran the wrong candidate.

They are reduced to picking apart republican talking points, as they have not successfully promoted their own agenda.

Playing the republican game. There is nothing from democrats but reaction. It is very difficult to win by playing the reaction game. Besides, almost no one in the public is listening anymore.

  18. Bob S. Says:

    Albert,

How about this from a site you or others have found to be credible. Factcheck.org

We’ve been flooded for the past few days with queries about dubious Internet postings and mass e-mail messages making claims about McCain’s running mate, Gov. Palin. We find that many are completely false, or misleading.

    * Palin did not cut funding for special needs education in Alaska by 62 percent. She didn’t cut it at all. In fact, she increased funding and signed a bill that will triple per-pupil funding over three years for special needs students with high-cost requirements.

    * She did not demand that books be banned from the Wasilla library. Some of the books on a widely circulated list were not even in print at the time. The librarian has said Palin asked a “What if?” question, but the librarian continued in her job through most of Palin’s first term.

    * She was never a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, a group that wants Alaskans to vote on whether they wish to secede from the United States. She’s been registered as a Republican since May 1982.

    * Palin never endorsed or supported Pat Buchanan for president. She once wore a Buchanan button as a “courtesy” when he visited Wasilla, but shortly afterward she was appointed to co-chair of the campaign of Steve Forbes in the state.

    * Palin has not pushed for teaching creationism in Alaska’s schools. She has said that students should be allowed to “debate both sides” of the evolution question, but she also said creationism “doesn’t have to be part of the curriculum.”

So is it a problem to give kids a weird name? Better alert millions of Americans, especially the hippies or musicians…Moon Unit, Dweezel, Apple, Rumor, etc.

How about joining the NRA? What is wrong with that except that she believes she has a specifically enumerated, constitutionally protected right and has exercised it?
I believe even John Kerry and Hillary Clinton talked about hunting…so is it just the NRA or guns ?

Pro-life….imagine someone saying she is pro-life and when they find out their child will have Down’s syndrome….not aborting the child. Obviously, someone who does that can’t be trusted with public office.
Of course, contrast that with Obama’s statement

“I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby,” Obama said.

Hmm, I could vote for someone who views unplanned children as a punishment or I can vote for the other side.

    Inebriated husband……

Todd Palin, was arrested and charged with Driving under the Influence of alcohol back in 1986. He was 22 years old at the time. He was driving in a truck with some friends in the small southwestern Alaska town of Dillingham when he was pulled over for the DUI.

String up anyone who has made, what is the politically correct phrase, youthful indiscretions? Or disqualify their spouse for public office. Get real

    Inexperience

I believe it was on this very site that I was told that Obama doesn’t have to have experience….he’s a leader. And the story changes now, how?

Rubbish and misdirections…find something real to talk about.

Following is a portion of Penn’s so-called speed code applicable to the university community:

“I will not engage in any behaviors that compromise or demean the dignity of individuals or groups, including intimidation, stalking, harassment, discrimination, taunting, ridiculing, insulting, or acts of violence.”

Penn Speech Code (cited by thefire.org).

Setting aside the alleged unconstitutionality of the university code, just which part of the code do you, personally, find offensive

    Bob:

It’s just like how right-wingers define pornography that crosses the line - you know it when you see it. Same thing with university speech codes - you know it when you hear it. Don’t make it more complex than it is or extend this code beyond its intended purpose, which is to provide a modicum of civility on the university campus.

BTW, to answer your question: yes, I do try and live within the confines of the above code, even though I am not subject to it (I don’t attend Penn State), and I expect that you do the same thing.

You stated you try to live by the Penn State speech code, do you still stand by that statement?

Yes. The disconnect for you, Bob, is you assumed - incorrectly - that I lived by the Penn standard is all communities (e.g., work) that I visit. When I visit communities that demand - explicitly or otherwise - adherence to the Penn standard, then I adhere to the standard. I don’t, however, always visit such communities.

*The elites love and thank the both of you. Since elites run the show, anyone that would channel money away from their coffers cannot, shall not get elected. Of course there are some surprises to make it look good, but by and large…

  22. Albert O. Says:

    Bob:

Are you denying you are a dumb ass?

PS. Your effort above is wasted effort, as I have stated repeatedly that the Penn speech code is not applicable at 1U. Geez, Bob, you could have invested the time smacking around the wife and giving her some more “what for.”

  23. Bob S. Says:

    Oprahs’ Orifice,

There isn’t much in this current state of fiscal decline that any of us are going to do about it.

The specter of fiscal failure is upon us. Maybe Obama will be the right choice for fall guy. Or on the other hand since this fiscal crisis may lead to social dislocation requiring martial law, it may be well to have a military guy as pres.

The elites have all their bases covered. No matters who wins, the difference will be negligible, but it will be the elites have foreseen it to be. The problems will reduce many to government dependency, including the business elements..
