The Politics of the Bailout Deal
Leadership may not have the votes to pass it.
Dennis Kucinich:
“I will tell you right now I don’t know if they have votes,” said Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio). “If the votes were there, this would be on the floor. The votes aren’t there.”[Snip]
“There is an attempt to create a fake partisan dichotomy here. This is not about Democrat versus Republican. This is about Main Street or Wall Street,” said Kucinich.
One good reason to oppose the bill:
President Bush said Sunday the bipartisan financial bailout package brokered over the weekend is “a very good bill”

It was pitiful to watch President Bush trying to rally the nation one more time. Not that many people are listening to him these days. Watching the last days of the Bush administration is like watching to Colorado River trying to reach the ocean. Will it dry up first?
That said, the bailout is necessary to avoid panic and to enable an orderly liquidation of troubled assets. They may be bad, but not as bad as fire-sale prices might suggest.

She rocks!
I liked her invoking the whole metaphor of “Mamma”
I saw a comic over the weekend (I’ll try to find and post it):
A wall street banker circa 1980 “Get the government off my back!”
Same Wall street banker circa 2008 (only now up to his hears in water clutching a life preserver) “Where’s the government - whose got my back?”
