CNN sent a reporter to Diomede in a helicopter, I watched the segment this morning. Diomede (pop. 150) is the village on the Bering Strait island of Little Diomede where you can see Big Diomede Island– which is part of Russia.
Governor Sarah Palin has never been there, in fact no Alaska governor has ever visited the place. There is no TV reception, and some of the residents could not name their current governor.
Elections are called “the silly season” for a reason.
Last night, Rachel Maddow had some fun with Palin’s assertions, when asked what newspapers and magazines she reads. Rachel said she too is a loyal subscriber to All of Them and Vast Variety.
COURIC: And when it comes to establishing your world view, I was curious, what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this — to stay informed and to understand the world?
PALIN: I’ve read most of them again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media —
COURIC: But what ones specifically? I’m curious.
PALIN: Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years.
COURIC: Can you name any of them?
PALIN: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news.
Hey, easy Richard. After all it’s not like Palin received her DEGREE IN JOURNALISM from an East Coast Ivy, where students are expected to know and be able to recall the name of a newspaper or two.
