The Trib Editorial Board Endorses Obama
For what it’s worth their big complaint against McCain:
. . . out of nowhere, and without proper vetting, the impetuous McCain picked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. She quickly proved grievously underequipped to step into the presidency should McCain, at 72 and with a history of health problems, die in office. More than any single factor, McCain’s bad judgment in choosing the inarticulate, insular and ethically challenged Palin disqualifies him for the presidency.
The country desperately needs a new and well-defined road map for the 21st century and leadership that can unite the country behind it.
We believe that Barack Obama can give us both.

Pollster.com has McCain leading by 34 points in Utah as of a month ago, 63.9 percent to 23.6 percent. I’m guessing McCain wins here whatever the SLT says.

The announcement is shocking.

I prefer this poll Richard. It makes me feel less stupid. Click on [results] and then move your mouse over Utah.
The Tribune owed us and their staff one after endorsing Bush even after four years of his horrible governance.

Utah coffee drinkers went for Obama over McCain 60-40. I can believe it.
Interestingly enough, the Chicago Tribune has endorsed Obama. First time in their 161-year history that they’ve supported a Democratic presidential candidate. He also got support from the L.A. Times, Washington Post, and The San Francisco Chronicle.

Singleton still calls the shots. If you remember their 2nd endorsement of Bush was a literal one based upon the headline. But the content spoke to the editors disgust at being ordered to support Bush. I have personal confirmation of that from two SLT editors.
I wonder who the DesNews will endorse.

It is not just the SL Tribune, as stated by Thomas B. Edsall at Huffpo:
I, too, wonder if the Deseret News has the gnads to say what they know and feel.

I can’t link to it because it doesn’t work, but the Deseret News had an article about two months ago saying Obama was raising 19% more money in Utah then McCain. How is it possible we are, supposedly, going to vote for more self abuse in Utah.
