Alaskan Senator Ted Stevens GUILTY in Corruption Case
Breaking news from Associated Press:
WASHINGTON (AP) — Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens has been convicted of lying about free home renovations and other gifts he received from a wealthy oil contractor.
The Senate’s longest-serving Republican, Stevens was found guilty on all seven counts of making false statements on Senate financial documents.

This is wonderful news!
I was thinking, at best, the jury would deadlock and drag the specter of a second trial through the election.
The magical number of “60″ just got a little less magical and a little more realistic!

Fantastic. Justice prevails! Another Republican exposed as a LYING FRAUD. Go Republicans!

I was thinking as you were, James, no chance we’d get a verdict before the election. Of course, can Alaskans be counted on not to vote for him even with the conviction? It would be a very strange scenario, should he now be re-elected.

How cozy are/were Stevens and Palin? See for yourself.
More ‘Palin’ around.
October 27th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
Wait! This means Palin started her political career in the “living room of a convicted felon.
Could it be? Oh nooooooo…

Good point, Cliff. Hurry, someone notify Hannity, Limbaugh, and Malkin. I’m sure they’ll want to do their civic duty and report this important fact to American voters.
October 27th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
But they’re soooo uh…uh…merican!
October 27th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
Hmmm. I wonder if Uncle Ted will be fighting, too, for all those other wrongfully convicted persons, some now sitting on death row.

Let me save the trolls a little time:
Yeah, but what about the black Democratic congressman with the $100.000 in his freezer! What about him! Huh? What about Clinton’s blow job? What about Gary Hart and Mayor Daley? Huh?
Yet another corrupt, high profile republican to add to the long list of convicted criminals, but there is a much, MUCH longer list of non-convicted criminals like Karl Rove who run free to oversee stolen elections and all other manner of fraud.
The word “Republican” has become synonymous with corruption over the last 40 years; no getting around it!
October 27th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
Amen to that!
October 27th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
It was only 90,000 :)
October 27th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
I smell a rat. I have reason to believe that Ted Stevens’s fall from grace may be a scam perpetrated with or without Ted Stevens knowledge to make Sarah Palin into some kind of super-reformer who had an influence in the conviction.
Hey, it’s an election year! All is fair in love and elections, right?
I suspect Bush will not pardon Stevens, but as with the “father of HAVA”, Bob Ney, he will not serve a lengthy term anyway. Bob Ney used handicapped people everywhere to author legislation which sold republican friendly electronic voting machines to Utah. Somebody in Utah lapped it up. Can you name him?
Bob Ney will probably be remembered for a damaging paid golf trip to Scotland and Mr. Stevens will probably be remembered for a damaging alpine lodge. What has he really done to the people of Alaska and the United States over all these years.

Lt. Gov Herbert?
October 27th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
Bingo!
I’m still a big Pat Paulson fan…
Picky, picky, picky on $90.000.
October 28th, 2008 at 6:38 am
I still fume at the mention of that name. Herbert, that is. Not Paulson.
October 28th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
Soon to be Governor Gary Herbert, because we Utahn’s love to throw millions and millions of dollars to a disgraced voting machine corporation which changed it’s name and has obliterated our chances of ever knowing how we are actually casting our votes. It doesn’t matter if the machines are 100% accurate, we simply can’t know who we are.
The rest of the country knows who we are; the stupidest voters in the world.

Larry, you’re testing my control threshhold, right? (=>O)

Sorry, my mission in life seems to be telling people things they don’t want to hear. I wish I could stop.
